This 1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible is an outstanding example of a beautifully designed classic automobile.  Pontiac Motor Division’s Tempest for 1965 presented new styling, including vertically mounted headlights and increased length.  A total of 11,311 GTO convertibles were built in 1965.  As documented on the Pontiac Historic Services paperwork this car was ordered with the GTO option which included a 4bbl 389 V8 engine and dual exhaust, sports type springs and shocks, special 7 blade fan and fan clutch, 7.75 x 14 red line tires, chrome air cleaner cover, chrome rocker arm covers and GTO emblems.  It was also ordered with the following options; custom wheel discs (spinner hub caps), back up lamps, Rally gauge cluster and tachometer, windshield washer and dual speed wipers, custom sports steering wheel, seat belts with outboard retractor- front pair, quick steering (20 to 1 ratio), 4-speed synchromesh – fully synchronized and Safe-T- Track rear axle, Bluemist Slate exterior color, Black folding top color and Blue interior trim.  This car was recently gone through by well-known Scott Tiemann of Supercar Specialties, Inc.  Scott Tiemann disassembled and reassembled a lot of the car with many correct components for the GTO Nationals Judging.  It is a very correct restoration with great attention to detail throughout.  The exterior body is extremely straight with great gaps.  The car was finished in its original color of Bluemist Slate and the paint is show quality.  It sports a new correct black convertible power top.  All of the glass and exterior appointments are also in show quality condition.  The car sits on the 14” wheels with US Royal Safety 800 7.75 x14 redline tires.  Over $5,000.00 was invested in purchasing and restoring the original spinner hub caps.  The new correct blue Legendary interior looks amazing and complements the exterior color perfectly.  Everything in the interior is in working order.  The trunk compartment is nicely restored and organized with the spare tire, jack tools and trunk mat.  The correct engine compartment is highly detailed and home to the matching numbers 389 V8 engine.  The engine is equipped with an NOS oil sending unit. The engine breathes through a correct Gardner exhaust system.  The engine is coupled to the matching numbers 4-speed manual M20 wide ratio transmission that shifts beautifully.  The power is transferred to the pavement through the Safe-T-Track rear axle with 3.23 gears.  The undercarriage is also highly detailed and mirror quality.  The car is equipped with four NOS shocks and NOS water based decals.  The PHS paperwork, binder with receipts, restoration photos, car cover and owner’s manual are included.  This car is a 2018 GTOAA Nationals Concours Gold Award winner.  It  scored an impressive  676 points out of a max 700 points.  This car runs and drives as great as it looks.
