Rally Preparation Services is pleased to offer for sale this classic 1974 Sahara Beige LHD Volkswagen Beetle 1303.
The bestselling single automotive design ever, VW Beetle production started in 1938 and finally finished in Mexico in 2003. In six decades over 20 million were produced. The Volkswagen, literally ‘People’s car’ was designed to bring low cost transport to the masses by Ferdinand Porsche. The air-cooled rear engine rear wheel drive configuration was chosen for ease of manufacture with only four bolts securing the engine in place. Various improvements were introduced during production. Engines were originally 25bhp 1200cc units and later 1300, 1500 and finally 1600cc units producing 60bhp. In 1971 a slightly larger version was introduced to run alongside the standard model. The 1302 and 1302S featured a body that was slightly longer from the windscreen forward to give increased luggage capacity and allow the installation of the much better McPherson strut suspension.
This Beetle was found in Portugal by us, rust free and the beneficiary of some excellent restoration work. This particular VW Beetle is a 1303, which is the final incarnation of the Beetle. It has a slightly larger curved front screen, uprated front brakes and minor revisions to the dash. RPS has installed a fully re-manufactured 1641cc unit complete with new clutch and uprated alternator.
This car has been well maintained so the interior is just as it was when it left the factory although there is a small crack in the dashboard and ideally a new rubber floor mat could be fitted, but is a joy to drive. This is an absolutely top car in a charming period colour which could be used as a daily driver or enjoyed as a practical classic car.
The car is currently residing at RPS’ sister company - the SASCo storage facility and available for inspection.
