History
For 2008, an all-wheel drive, two-seat, mid-engine product
immediately changed the way many looked at the Germany company
Audi. Audi converted the name of their famous Le Mans-winning R8
prototype race car as the identity of their supercar. The
production Audi R8 borrowed underpinnings from the Lamborghini
Gallardo but featured a completely unique style and character. A
420-horsepower 4.2-liter V-8 engine powered the first Audi R8
supercars with the momentum to propel from 0 to 60 miles per hour
in 4 seconds. For 2010, a 525-horsepower 5.2-liter V-10 engine was
introduced. Another major change followed in 2011 as a convertible
R8 Spyder joined the hardtop coupe body style. Providing a
560-horsepower engine, the limited edition Audi R8 GT also included
functional motorsport-inspired touches such as a fixed rear spoiler
and the extensive use of carbon fiber components.
