Vehicle Description
This 1961 Chevrolet Impala Bubble Top is running strong and is
absolutely chock full of early '60s style. It proudly wears its
original colors both inside and out, and with its distinctive,
seldom-seen styling combining with a very solid condition front to
back, its collectability factor is undeniable as it stands by to
offer its next lucky owner an outstanding vintage driving
experience.
The exterior color scheme combines Jewel Blue with an Ermine White
roof and angular side accents, and its thoroughly era-appropriate
look is no accident since it's the very same combo it began life
with so many years ago. It still looks strong and offers a nice
shine; get up close and you still won't find any major dings or
scratches. Chevy opted for a trimmer, sportier look for its third
generation of Impalas, of which this '61 is a member, and when you
take a lap around the car, you'll likely be taken by its overall
magnetism - with its collection of contours and long expanses of
chrome trim, it's just a flat out appealing classic. Its signature
"bubble top" style, most impactful when viewed from the side,
features a front windshield with dramatic curvature at both ends,
as well as pillars that curve backward as they meet up with the
cabin. The bumpers both fore and aft have a nice shine to them and
sit table level, and this Chevy's array of trim is securely in
place and shows no pitting or rust.
The two-tone blue interior mixes cloth and vinyl to great effect
and, like the exterior, still features its original color
combination to go along with its stock configuration. The front and
back bench seats are amply-padded and they're just as comfortable
as they look. They show only minor wear and a little bit of surface
detailing will have them looking their best. Below, the expanse of
blue carpeting running underneath sports a pair of Impala-branded
floor mats. The original column shifter has been replaced with
"four on the floor" to provide a more modern driving experience,
and an aggressive looking manual shifter now sits within easy
reach, beckoning you to grab ahold and get this classic out on the
road. The generously proportioned original steering wheel has the
look of a veritable museum piece, while the dash area just beyond
it is in solid shape, sporting easily readable factory gauges in
its instrument cluster and some clean chrome accents that contrast
nicely with the blue steel that surrounds them. The spacious trunk
area is in good order, with a full-size factory spare properly
located on its interior shelf, leaving plenty of luggage space.
Despite its more than 55 years of service, this Impala is a very
solid driver that stands ready, willing and able to provide new
chapters of adventures on the road just as soon as you get it home.
It's no mere survivor, but more accurately a "thriver". With a turn
of the key the 283 cubic inch V8 sitting at its center starts right
up and runs with all the smoothness you could want, and the 4-speed
manual transmission sitting just behind it shifts with impressive
precision to provide a very pleasant driving experience that's
amplified by both power steering and power brakes that are working
just as intended. This vintage Chevy sits on a set of 14" stock
Chevy rims nicely painted to match the exterior of the car and
outfitted with Coker Classic whitewall tires.
