In 1982, Buick debuted the Grand National as a package for the
Regal. These initial Grand nationals were not painted black as the
later ones were, but rather charcoal gray. In 1984, the black Grand
National that became the iconic '80s muscle car was first released.
This black beauty was produced from 1984-1987, and came standard
with a turbocharged 3.8 V6 and two-tone interior.
This example has been very well-preserved. Though it hasn't been
stored in the original plastic inside a shipping container for the
last 30 years, it has been well-maintained and driven sparingly.
With just 47,107 actual miles on the odometer, it is no wonder this
car is in such excellent condition! This car is very clean top to
bottom, wears its original paint, and comes with a set of both
Grand National and GNX wheels. Purchased from the original owner
nearly 20 years ago, the current owner strived to keep it as
original as possible and it clearly shows that this car has had 2
owners who both knew they had something special.
Under the hood sits the original 3.8-liter turbocharged V6. This
engine was rebuilt less than 1,000 miles ago by the owner. This was
not the result of abuse or overuse, rather the result of pampering
and lack of use. These engines, like most older GM engines are
notorious for having a small leak from the rear main seal, that the
owner wanted to correct and since he was going to pull the engine
anyway, he decided to rebuild it. The result is a engine that acts
brand new and isn't leaking a drip in our showroom.
Stepping inside this Buick has got to be what it feels like to step
through a wormhole into 1987. Everything inside this car is just so
gloriously 1980s. Slide the seat back, adjust the tilt steering
column to the correct height, and you don't even have to start the
car to feel like you're going for a ride! The interior is
immaculate, looking as if it has only been sat in a few times. Even
the already low-mileage seems a bit high! The interior is as
complete as it is clean, with minimal wear and no cracks or other
damage.
Overall, this Buick is a very well-preserved original example of a
highly-sought piece of classic American automotive history. Though
the paint has some light wear here and there, it is indeed original
and adds to the character of the car. There's just something about
a special car like this being this well-preserved! All it needs is
a new home.
