Vehicle Description
1989 Nissan Skyline GT-R Debut year for Nissan's R32 series Car
previously displayed in climate-controlled Japanese automobile
collection Right-hand drive; legally imported into U.S. One of
approximately 8,000 models made in 1989 Stunning Electric Blue
exterior with professionally reupholstered black interior 2.6L
DOHC, 24-valve, twin-turbocharged straight six-cylinder engine
(code RB26DETT) making 316 hp! Five-speed manual transmission and
mechanical limited-slip differential All-wheel-drive, HICAS
four-wheel-steering and anti-lock brakes In the late 1980s and
during the 1990s, many car magazines wrote articles about all of
the vehicles offered in Europe and Japan that, for various reasons,
never landed on our shores. One of the more tantalizing cars was
Nissan's Skyline GT-R. MotoeXotica Classic Cars is proud to present
this 1989 GT-R. Nineteen eighty-nine was the Skyline R32's first
model year and about 8,000 GT-Rs were made at Nissan's factory in
Musashimurayama, Japan. This example is dressed in a striking
Electric Blue which presents extremely well. The car's bodywork is
solid and straight, its engine bay is extremely tidy, the cargo
area looks great, the battery appears new and the car's rear wing
spoiler and body-colored bumpers' condition match the rest of the
exterior. This Skyline rolls on Falken radials, size 245/40ZR17 at
all four corners. Each tire is wrapped around a six-spoke alloy
wheel. The wheels and tires are in very good condition. Under the
hood is Nissan's 2.6L DOHC, 24-valve, twin-turbocharged inline
six-cylinder engine connected to a five-speed manual transmission
backed by a mechanical limited-slip differential. Nissan rated the
motor (code RB26DETT) at 276 bhp @ 6,800 rpm and 260 lbsft @ 4,400
rpm. Theengine actually produced 316 horsepower but was under-rated
due to a Japanese car makers' "gentlemen's agreement" not to exceed
276hp. Some factory features of the RB26DETT include: Six throttle
body intakes Solid lifter valve actuation, shim under bucket
Belt-driven cams CAS (crank angle sensor) driven off exhaust cam,
tells ECU (engine control unit) crank/cam position Water-cooled,
oil pressure lubed turbos OEM cast pistons have cooling channels
under the crowns (extra oil cooling to reduce piston temperature)
Piston oil squirters Sodium-filled exhaust valves Eight
counterweighted crankshafts 'I' beam connecting rods The RB26DETT
engine block is cast iron, while the cylinder head is aluminum
alloy. The intake varies from other RB-series motors in that it has
six individual throttle bodies (three sets of two throttle
assemblies Siamesed together) instead of a single throttle body.
The engine also uses a parallel twin-turbo system, with a pair of
T25-type ceramic turbochargers set by the wastegates to limit boost
pressure to 10 psi, although the Skyline GT-R has a built-in boost
restrictor to keep it under 14 psi. The GT-R had a significantly
larger intercooler, larger brakes, and aluminum front guards and
hood. Other distinguishing features include flared front and rear
wheel arches. Inside, the car's interior has been completely
reupholstered in black. More supportive front bucket seats are
fitted, the matching carpet and headliner look great. A three-spoke
steering wheel faces the driver, the inner door panels and
instrument panels are all in very good order. The dashboard
features a torque meter that shows how much torque is being
delivered to the front wheels (from zero to 50 percent). Oil temp,
voltage, and turbo boost gauges are fitted just above the climate
controls. The center console and shifter look great and an AM/FM
stereo with CD player completes the interior. The R32 Skyline
debuted in 1989. It was available as either a two-door coupe or
four-door hardtop sedan, all other bodystyles were dropped. The R32
featured several versions of theRB-series straight-sixengines,
which had improved heads and used the ECCS (Electronically
Concentrated Control System) injection system. Most models
hadHICASfour-wheel steering, with the rear wheels being
hydraulicallylinked to the front steering. ABS was standard on the
GT-R plus a mechanical limited-slip differential. As of August
2014, the R32 Skyline GT-R has been eligible for US import under
the NHTSA "25-year" rule that allows vehicles 25 years old (to the
month) or older to be imported. These vehicles, due to their age,
do not have to comply with federal emissions or with Federal motor
vehicle safety standards. If you recall seeing Skylines in 1990s
