For Sale: 1969 Pontiac GTO in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1969 Pontiac GTO Coupe

Born of the brainchild of John DeLorean, the initial concept was to upgrade the Tempest, morphing it into an early version of the muscle car, which was the up and coming trend in a niche market of buyers who were hungry to go fast. The name, which was DeLorean's idea, was inspired by the Ferrari 250 GTO, the successful race car. It is an Italian abbreviation for Gran Turismo Omologato ("grand tourer homologated"), which means officially certified for racing in the grand tourer class. But in reality, the Pontiac GTO was never really a certified Grand Tourer race car. Internally, it was initially called the "Grand Tempest Option", one of many automobiles in the Pontiac line up with a 'Grand' in it. Despite these things, the GTO is one of the fastest cars ever manufactured by Pontiac.

Born in Pontiac Michigan in early 1969, this car was shipped to a State College, Pennsylvania dealership in May of 1969. This car presents in near showroom condition with mere road dirt splashed on the bottom being one of them few visible signs of use! 2 panels appear to be skimmed, although they are straight.

Exterior
A Limelight Green repaint covers the exterior, as well as the obligatory air vent ports in the center of the hood. Making our way to the front the matching Limelight painted Pontiac nose splits the grille area which appears to be 2 solid pieces on either side, but it is concealing dual headlights. Below this are two signal lights with the 4 square trim iconic to Pontiac as well. The rear chrome bumper and taillights appears in fair condition and other badging presents as good. A black Cordova top is in very good condition. Rally wheels with trim ring option are attached to all 4 corners.

Interior
Black vinyl buckets with stitched vertical tufting, and a Y pattern are seen in front, and carried over to the rear bench as well. Black carpeting covers the floor and is stain free. A black vinyl and faux woodgrain accented dash has the rally gauge and clock package inserted and is fronted by the original PMD 3 spoke steering wheel that is encircled with a wood covering with a small split present. Door panels appear in very good condition and are highlighted with a rectangular GTO moniker. Headliner appears unremarkable and noted it has been re wrapped (and done very well I might add) and underneath is a black console with a flip up storage area, as well as the 4-speed floor shifter. Power steering, and power brakes are there as well. A nonfunctioning radio is installed.

Drivetrain
The standard 350hp 400ci 4 barreled carburetor I've read is referred to as the "Turquoise Terror" sits in a very clean engine bay. A 4-speed factory ordered manual transmission is seen underneath. As too are drum brakes on the rear and disc brakes in front.

Sometimes the best classics are the ones that speak softly. No blower sticking through the hood, no gaudy rims on a bagged chassis and no wild graphics. Just a clean, classy and well-constructed muscle car that was purpose-built to look good and perform great. Featuring timeless style, excellent hardware and modern comfort, this slick Pontiac represents the best of everything.
