Vehicle Description
1954 CHEVROLET 3100 5-WINDOW Chevrolet achieved postwar
pickup-truck success with its Advanced Design series, with only
evolutionary improvements from 1947 until 1954, when the lineup saw
engineering improvements, its only major redesign ahead of the
coming Task Force era. The 3100 pickup truck featured an all-new
open grille and one-piece windshield, along with a longer and
lower-mounted body and full-length floorboards topped by what
Chevrolet called its Comfortmaster cab. This 1954 Chevrolet
3100-series 5-window pickup combines the best of 1954 with what was
futuristic, a small-block Chevrolet V-8 horsepower under the hood.
The original Thriftmaster 6-cylinder engine was upgraded to a
dressed-for-success 350 CI high-performance Chevrolet V-8. Deep
breathing comes by way of a high-flow air filter and Edelbrock
4-barrel carburetor on a chromed intake manifold. Finned valve
covers and chrome-finished engine accessories make for an engine
that sparkles when you pop the hood. The transmission was upgraded
to an automatic unit for easy driving and hands-free power delivery
to the Camaro-sourced rear axle. Suspension and braking were
brought into modern times with a Speedway Motors Mustang II
independent front suspension with power disc brakes and power
rack-and-pinion steering. The cab and bed were painted in an
eye-catching copper, and a new chrome-plated front grille, bumpers
and headlight surrounds accent the 1954 Advance Design. Inside the
Comfortmaster cab is a leather bucket-style bench seat with a
center armrest and the added comfort and control by way of air
conditioning and a chrome-plated tilt steering column. New glass
makes for clear vision and plenty of light. The finished oak-wood
bed was fitted with polished stainless-steel strips and mounts. The
updated Chevrolet truck rides on Rev 100 5-spoke chrome wheels with
staggered aspect-ratio radial tires for a classic, raked-forward
street stance. 5-window cab 350 CI V-8 engine Automatic
