For Sale: 1969 Plymouth Barracuda in Seekonk, Massachusetts

Vehicle Description

Amazing example of a limited production 1969 Plymouth Barracuda 440 2-door Sports Fastback with 25,486 original miles.  There were only 360 – 1969 Plymouth Cuda 440’s built to specs for the U.S.A. All are automatics with no power steering and no power brakes.  Canadian figures are unknown and none were exported.  They were not considered a regular production vehicle but rather a special order similar to the GM COPO program.  Norm Kraus and Hurst/Campbell helped Chrysler with the engineering.  Adding the 440 Super Commando V8 required some modifications such as a driver’s side motor mount as well as exhaust manifold to fit the large engine.  The car was rated at 375HP w/ 480 ft-lbs torque and did a 14.01 second quarter mile time at 103.81 mph.  These cars were delivered with same limited 12-month/12,000-mile warranty that came with the 426 Hemi cars.  The actual production date of this car was closer to January 29, 1969.  It was ordered and delivered to Whitney’s Chrysler-Plymouth located in Mansfield, OH.  An original Chrysler Motors Corporation Cuda 440 Special Warranty letter dated February 7th, 1969 documents this and is included.  According to the 1969 Plymouth Performance Packages brochure the Cuda 440 Special Package includes 440 Cubic Inch V8 with four barrel carburetor, 3.55 sure grip rear axle, heavy duty suspension including torsion bars and leaf springs, front anti sway bar, leaf shock absorbers, 14” HD steel wheels with wide boot red streak tires, black dual hood scoops, tape stripes, lower body stripes and Cuda 440 callouts.  The original fender tag indicates the paint #R6 Scorch Red and the trim #H6R Scorch Red.  It also indicates it was ordered with #R11- radio and #N85- tachometer.  This car retailed to a gentleman who lived in Ohio.  He drove the car roughly 25,000 miles for three years before passing away.  The car sat until the late 90’s when it was purchased and stored for another 14 years by a local man in Ohio.  The car was then sold to another local man in Ohio who performed a meticulous rotisserie restoration which was completed in 2017.  The car remained in the same area in Ohio for 48 years.  The original owner’s manual and partial broadcast sheet is included.  This entire car is in show quality condition.  The car retains most of the original sheet metal.  The body is very straight and the paint is beautiful.  It retains all the original glass with exception of the front windshield.  It also retains the original stainless trim and wheels.  The interior has been completely restored and is also beautiful.  It retains the original door panels and seat belts.  The trunk compartment is nicely detailed.  The engine compartment is highly detailed and home to the original matching numbers 440 Super Commando V8.  The engine was completely rebuilt which is documented with a receipt.  It retains many original items such as the carburetor, air cleaner and radiator. The engine is coupled to the original matching numbers 727 Torqueflite transmission and original matching numbers rear end.  The undercarriage is nicely detailed throughout.  This car is in the 1969 440 Cuda Registry by Tom Wenstadt.  This car also in the Galen Registry and was decoded by Galen Govier.
