The first generation Camaro is one of the most desirable cars of the muscle car era. Lasting from 1967-1969, this platform continues to be the most popular (and valuable) Camaro family of all time. And this 1968 RS model, with its beautiful paint, 400+ hp small block, 5-speed transmission, and other Pro Touring style upgrades, carries the torch well.
This car cannot be missed with its brilliant blue paint with silver racing stripes and new brightwork; it really pops. Of course the RS front end is always a hit too. This one has been converted from vacuum to electric door drive from Detroit Speed. There are also 18” Foose wheels with Nitto NT555 tires. The underside of this car looks great as well, solid and rust-free throughout with its original metal.
The engine is a non-original 355 ci setup with 4-bolt main bearing caps and ZZ4 aluminum heads. Other highlights include a Clay Smith custom camshaft, gear drive, alumimum intake, and MSD ignition. This is far superior to any small block from 1968! The exhaust features Patriot ceramic coated headers with Magnaflow stainless steel piping and mufflers. The transmission has been converted to a Tremec TKO 5-speed with overdrive for improved high speed driving.
This Camaro has also had the front suspension converted to a Viking setup with tubular control arms and adjustable coilovers, along with a thick RideTech stabilizer bar. The power brakes use Wilwood front discs, and there is power steering as well. There are plenty of other upgrades too including a new gas tank and a Champion radiator with electric fans.
The interior was redone starting with new carpet with Dynamat underneath. The stock front seats were replaced with new Procar Elite buckets. A console was installed with oil pressure and water temperature gauges along with a 5-speed shift plate and lighted cupholders. There is also a RetroSound stereo with USB and iPhone ports. Additional items include a new heater core, updated wiring, and Digitail sequential taillights.
Camaros are one of the most endearing cars of the 1960’s. This RS has seen a tremendous amount of recent work, resulting in a car that looks fantastic and has far more performance than when it left the factory. Even the Ford and Mopar types will appreciate this one.
