Vehicle Description
Here's a great example of the forerunner to Ford's muscle cars in a
very appealing, open air form. This 1963 Ford Falcon Futura
convertible has been lightly travelled since a restoration that
left it looking sharp and running strong. It represents "the road
less travelled" as far as vintage Fords are concerned, as you don't
see many of its counterparts on the road anymore, and offers a
solid, fulfilling vintage driving experience by way of its smoothly
performing drivetrain.
Noble-looking and yet unassuming at the same time, this Falcon will
put a smile on your face with just a quick glance. Its Peacock blue
exterior is flat out magnetic - it's easy to see why this shade is
so closely associated with calming the nerves and it displays a
nice solid shine in this setting. It's ornamented by a collection
of chrome that all represents well - the bumpers both fore and aft
are straight and level, and the trim, badging and other bright work
throughout is securely mounted and shows no glaring dings or
divots. When a change in the weather calls for increased
protection, there's a vinyl convertible top tucked neatly under its
tonneau cover that's ready to spring into action. Its light tan
color represents a nice change from more commonly encountered
shades and really looks great against the blue of the rest of the
exterior and its plastic rear window is crystal clear for maximum
visibility.
The turquoise interior sports its original color and will transport
you straight back to the early '60s just as soon as you climb
inside. The front bench has recently been refurbished to its former
glory, looking just as well-padded and inviting as it did when this
Falcon first left the showroom floor. Its rear counterpart is still
carrying what is likely its original cover, but whether due to
light usage or extreme caution it, too, is looking pretty darned
impressive, and both rows of seating loom over carpeting that's
also aged well. The generously proportioned original steering wheel
still holds its place on the column, while the dash area just
beyond it is a definite high point for this Ford classic, harboring
functional and readable gauges in its instrument cluster, as well
as a full assortment of ivory-colored control knobs. The trunk area
presents well - its interior walls look straight and sturdy and a
full size spare is standing by on its vinyl lined floor.
The engine compartment looks pretty much as it did when this Falcon
first hit the road, with a period-correct 260 cubic inch V8 sitting
at its center, wearing a very sharp orange air cleaner and a pair
of matching valve covers. The inner fenders, firewall and shock
towers carry a coat of black paint to maintain their factory
appearance and the assortment of belts and hoses they contain all
look fresh and road ready. This '63 is a very solid driver - it
holds the road well, its engine is running smooth and sounds great,
while the 2-speed Ford-O-Matic transmission just behind it provides
nice, precise shifts. 13" stock wired hubcaps add even more to its
thoroughly appealing vintage vibe and are wrapped with Cooper
Trendsetter tires.
