Introduced in 1976, the Ferrari 308 GTB revolutionized the marque's
mid-engine model line with a new V-8 engine and updated coachwork.
The first 712 examples were clothed in fiberglass before Ferrari
switched to steel bodies, making the earlier examples particularly
desirable. Chassis 19521 is one of just 100 examples specified for
the US, completing assembly during June 1976.
The car displays an original California emissions window decal,
leading us to believe that is where it began its journey in life.
It is said the Ferrari was initially purchased by a Seattle-based
enthusiast and relocated back to California during the early 1990s.
By 2012, in was in the care of Mr. J.T. Murphy of Kailua-Kona,
Hawaii, in which he again returned 19521 to California in 2014 for
a documented service to the engine, ignition, fuel systems and
auxiliary equipment. Acquired by its most recent caretaker shortly
thereafter, the Ferrari was entrusted to Francorchamps of America
Inc. in Costa Mesa, California, for further and thorough sorting,
including a rebuild of the radiator, air-conditioning, carburetors,
brakes, and the steering rack. Interior Concepts and Designs
reupholstered the seats with supple beige leather with black
inserts, while numerous other finishing measures were undertaken,
including the reconditioning of the dashboard, steering wheel and
instruments. Ferrari & Maserati of Newport Beach was commissioned
to perform its most recent Major Belt Service in June 2014 or about
625 miles ago. Rex Nguyen Restorations completed a further
comprehensive cosmetic freshening in 2016 to increase the Ferrari's
overall presence and subsequently Pebble Beach winner Jeff's
Resurrections in Taylor, TX.
Today, with 59,750 recorded miles, 19521 presents as the ideal
driver's 308 and/or casual display piece. The Ferrari's cabin is
beautifully trimmed throughout, with the benefit of air
conditioning (cool, not cold), period Blaupunkt radio and
supplemental sisal mats. Both front and rear compartments retain
working zippered stowage with correct spare tire assembly up front
and a complete set of emergency equipment in the luggage
compartment. This includes tool roll, triangle, jack, wrenches,
tires iron, belts, fuse/bulb holder and additional accessories in
correct pouch. The exterior's appearance is glossy with some cues
of age, visible upon closer inspection. Correct, original 7.5x14"
Campagnolo wheels pleasantly compliment, especially paired to the
newly mounted 205/70R14 Michelin XWX tires. The GTB's drivability
is topnotch - these early 308s have a sound and peppiness unlike
any of the later generations. Truly a memorable experience!
In addition to a complete dossier of invoices from the
aforementioned services and restoration work (totaling
approximately $60,000.00), 19521 is accompanied by a spare parts
catalog and numerous articles / publications supporting this
particular model. This fantastic, first-year 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB
'Vetroresina' is one of the finest examples we have had in our
stable and offers the superb cachet of one of the marque's rare
modern production models - now available for worldwide purchase and
delivery from our Houston, Texas showroom.
