The Plymouth GTX was introduced as the Belvedere GTX in 1967 by the
Plymouth division. It was positioned as a mid-sized upscale-trimmed
performance muscle car through the 1971 model year.
The GTX was based on the Belvedere, but differentiated by blacked
out grille and special rear fascia, fiberglass simulated hood
scoops with optional racing stripes, a chrome "pop-open" fuel
filler cap, and a tachometer mounted on the center consol.
The GTX was positioned as a "gentleman's" muscle car with
Plymouth's 440 cu in (7.2 L) V8 engine called the "Super Commando
440" rated at 375 Horsepower.
Performance was extremely respectable with a 0-60 MPH time of 6.3
Sec and the quarter mile coming in 14.0 Sec at 96.5 MPH.
Only 1,026 Convertibles were produced in 1968 making this
Gentleman's Muscle Car relatively rare.
This amazing example retains its original Matching Numbers 440
Super Commando and 727 Automatic Transmission. Correct with 8 3/4"
rear with 3.25 Sure-Grip, power steering, correct AM radio, bucket
seats, console with factory tachometer, new interior, new complete
exhaust system. re-cored original 936 radiator, correct and highly
detailed engine compartment, new re-chromed bumper, polished
stainless, newer power top with glass rear window and boot,
Plymouth Rallye wheels with red line tires.
Car underwent a complete restoration about 5 years ago and is
absolutely pristine.
