Vehicle Description

1972 PORSCHE 911 STR 002 BY MAGNUS WALKER
--White with Blue Stripe accents and Orange Bumpers, Black interior, Gold wheels, Documented Custom “Urban Outlaw” Build by Magnus Walker in 2013, 3.2 liter Short Stroke Flat Six Cylinder Engine, 915 5-speed transmission with Limited-Slip Differential.

This 1972 911 started life and is titled as a 911 T Coupe.  Then Mr. Magnus Walker got a hold of it and the madness ensued.  Magnus Walker, a Los Angeles based notable Porsche enthusiast, keeps an impressive garage of classic Porsches, many of which have been tastefully tweaked by Magnus himself.  As with other “Outlaw” Porsches in his garage, Magnus desires sport purpose built, hotrod inspired 911s.  With Magnus’ personal touches, this 1972 911 T is now STR 002!

Magnus selected this originally Gemini Blue T Coupe for his restoration hot rod build due to its one-year only external oil filler and Porsche’s rugged 915 gearbox.  The T was completely striped to bare metal to become the STR 002.  The STR 002 brilliantly combines Magnus’ personal favorite Porsches; the famed 911 ST and 911 R models of the era while progressing the short wheelbase design with Magnus’ custom touches.  The STR 002 incorporates SC and Turbo fender flares, 911 R styled indicator lights, an external fuel filler in the center hood, lightweight fiberglass bumpers, grafted-in taillights, drilled door handles, louvered engine cover, plexiglass bubble quarter windows, and Campagnolo-style Group 4 PAG wheels wrapped in Hoosier R6 tires.  In keeping with STR 002’s outward appearance, the interior was also tastefully upgraded including period-correct bolt-in roll bar, Recaro rally seats, Schroth harnesses, drilled floorboards from Rennline, J-West Rennshifter, Racemark steering wheel, Heuer clock, chrome gauge bezels, a short-wheelbase rear view mirror, and of course an iconic 917-inspired Balsa wood shift knob.

Magnus decided on a 3.2 liter short stroke flax six engine from a 911 3.0 liter SC case.  The 3.2 was built by Porsche specialist Rennwerks of Camarillo, California.  The flat six incorporates JE Pistons, a high-lift Mod S cam, ARP connecting rod bolts, AASCO racing valve springs, stainless valves, and Bosch mechanical fuel injection.  The noise of the engine is unforgettable with 1 5/8 inch headers and a M&K twin pipe muffler.  Cooling is achieved by a front-mounted Carrera oil cooler with Elephant racing finned oil lines.  Magnus estimates about 275 bhp and has kept the weight of STR 002 low at around 2,100 pounds.  To complete the “Urban Outlaw” specs, Magnus used Tarret RSR front and rear sway bars, Elephant Racing quick change torsion bars, Turbo tie rod ends, Bilstein sport shocks, and 4-wheel vented disc brakes.

The build was completed in 2013.  As far as accolades go from one of Magnus’ best builds, STR 002 was chosen as the cover of Road & Track’s June 2013 magazine as part of a special issue commemorating the 50thanniversary of the Porsche 911.  STR 002 was also a featured article in Total 911, showcased on Fifth Gear with Tiff Needell, Adam Carolla’s CarCast as well as Jay Leno’s Garage.

Magnus has fully documented the build process on his web page, which highlights the exorbitant level of detail, craftsmanship, and passion put into STR 002.  Magnus Walker seldomly parts ways with any of his custom builds in his collection.  This is a very rare opportunity to buy his famous 1972 911 STR 002 Urban Outlaw 911.  Oh yeah and it is fast!
