For Sale: 1940 Packard Super Eight in Sterling, Illinois

Vehicle Description

Packard introduced the 180 in 1940 which replaced the Twin Six as their top of the line luxury model. It shared running gear with the Custom Super Eight 160 and offered the most powerful V8 offered by any auto manufacturer in 1940. Packard only produced 2,700 180’s in 1940 which featured finer interior detailing with the best fabrics and carpeting available. From 1937–1954 Henney had an exclusive agreement with Packard to convert 180’s into ambulances, hearses and flower cars as this was previously a hearse. This particular hearse was converted to a street rod by Bob Carter, who is considered one of the best street rod builders ever. The project started in the late 90’s and was finished just a couple of years before Bob passed away in 2009. It has been driven about 15,000 miles since and shows incredibly well. The heart of this rod is 502ci crate engine with aluminum heads that put out in excess of 500 horse power. It was fitted with valve covers that say Packard so it blends in nicely. It is fed by an Edlebrock 800 cfm carb and is sparked by an HEI ignition. The exhaust is handled with a set of ceramic coated performance headers and it sound just plain nasty ripping through its dual exhaust. The power is put to the 9” posi rear via a performance built 700R4 tranny. It has 4 wheel power disc brakes, power steering and a refined suspension that all work together to provide an incredibly smooth ride. The interior is loaded with features as well such as A/C, power windows, power locks, tilt steering, cruise control and a nice stereo. It is finished in beautiful cream leather with green accents that continue throughout the door panels and headliner and really makes all of the gorgeous cherry wood pop. The body is 100% steel that has been adorned with Cadillac Polo Green Metallic paint, gold pin striping, all new chrome and a sweet set of billet rims with vogue tires. This is not your typical street rod and will get you tons of attention at any car show or cruise night. Close to $150,000 was spent to bring this vision to reality and that did not account for the original cost of the car. We are serious about selling it and have priced it accordingly so if you could see this beauty in your collection you better pick up the phone before someone beats you to it!
