Vehicle Description
1985 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
As a contemporary homage to the classic muscle car, the 1985
Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS followed the letter of the law, if not the
spirit. The Monte SS was indeed a midsize car crammed full of
big-car engine, however the EPA was putting heavy restrictions on
big car engines.
This Monte Carlo SS presents in good condition. Thwarting the EPA,
and their power robbing legislation, customizing has been done to
it mainly to prepare it for a street race. A B&M automatic
shifter, aftermarket radio, and keyless and handle-less entry which
took this writer some time getting accustomed to, but in the end
thumbs up! Also added are AB mag wheels, and performance radials,
this car has been well maintained, and garaged. Some surface rust
is seen underneath as well as on the mounting bolts for the front
buckets. Otherwise the car presents nicely.
Exterior
A menacing red covers the outside of this car. Black accents, and
Black vinyl badging are seen throughout. A matching red skirt bands
the bottom and makes up the front and rear crash bumpers.
Headlights, brake lights, grille are all in good condition, and
have no marring. No door handles here, as a remote entry system
opens the shaved doors for you. New front BF Goodrich Radial T/A's
235/60R15 and Firestone Firehawk 275/50R15 all wrapped American
Racing Rims.
Interior
Gray crushed velour bucket seats, with vinyl side and bottom
skirts, as well as a gray crushed velour bench seat 5 adults
comfortably. A tear is evident in the vinyl on the drivers bucket.
A gray vinyl console with a B&M floor shifter is between the
front seats, as well as a flip up storage console. Dash has been
replaced with a clean interior Intellitronix digital dash with red
readouts. Gray cut pile carpeting, with some fading and staining
finishes off the passenger compartment floor. Custom carpet floor
mats are installed to protect the original carpet. Gray vertical
stitched vinyl as well as gray carpeting. Chromed electric window,
joystick remote mirror and electronic entry sensor are also seen in
each door, as well as the usual's...power steering, power brakes,
power windows and cruise control.
Drivetrain
A 350 CI Small Block V8 engine nests in an engine compartment that
shows mostly original. Looks are deceiving as the engine features a
few upgrades: a 3-angle valve grind, ported and polished heads, a
hi flow water and oil pump, an oversized oil pan, Headman Headers,
A double roller timing chain, and a performance cam. It is topped
by a K&N intake and attached to a 4 speed GM Turbo Hydramatic
overdrive transmission actuated by a B&M transmission shift
kit. A frame independent front suspension, and coil spring rear
suspension make up the drivetrain. Front Disc and rear drum brakes
are seen. A very good underside view reveals no rust on floor pans
side panels, rocker area. Some surface rust is seen on frame and
suspension, but nothing remarkable.
This driven example of a 1985 Monte Carlo SS shows that a consigner
can have fun using a car, as well as presenting it well when they
have had their fun. Possibly in the category of "sleeper" there are
lots of stealthy upgrades that are under the hood. All around very
red racing inspired example of the Monte Carlo, with a good
interior, and solid custom-built engine with 32K miles on it.
