Turbo Carrera
The 911 Turbo arrived on North American shores for the 1976 model
year. Reworked to be emissions friendly, the North American model
was officially coined the "Turbo Carrera" by marketing. Porsche
continued to produce the 3.0-liter 930 through the 1977 model year,
before switching to an intercooled 3.3-liter engine. In total there
were 2,819 of the first generation 3.0-liter 930 Turbo Carrera
produced, with only 1,237 originally destined for the United
States.
9306800116 was completed in November of 1975 as a non-catalyst,
U.S. model and sold new in Massachusetts to its first owner, Mr.
Utley of Marblehead, MA. The Turbo soon changed hands in 1978 at
7,200 miles to its long-term caretaker Mr. Goudreau of Swampscott,
MA. Goudreau retained ownership for the next 17 years or about
20,000 enjoyable miles later. #116 received a service in March 1995
before its sale and including a new K27 Turbo. The Englert's of
Bethel, CT would go on to faithfully document and care for the
Turbo thereafter. An engine rebuild and mechanical freshening was
commissioned in early 1996 at 28,200 miles by Fairfield County
Motorsport, who regularly maintained the Porsche thereafter. The
911 was fitted with adjustable rear spring plates and 993 front
calipers for better performance. This Carrera Turbo's most recent
steward took possession in 2011 and later that year ordered an
engine reseal and thorough powerplant freshening at 50,500 miles.
Goldsborough continued to upkeep and cosmetically improve the car
with attention to rubber and plastic bits, sunroof felts, authentic
Porsche issued Fuchs wheels and center caps. Please note* the car
is fitted with 16" wheels, opposed to 15's as originally delivered,
due to the larger front brakes.
This striking example of the highly desired 3.0L 911 Turbo displays
just 50,800 miles along with a nicely detailed and very solid body
and undercarriage. Beautiful paint and interior. Etched glass
remains fitted around, as does the anodized trim. Earlier
"non-frosted" Bosh European headlights are fitted, while the
correct Bosch fog lamps remain. Both paint and cabin finishes
present very well for their age. The leather upholstery appears
original, including the carpets, dash and trim - with supplemental
Turbo script floor mats for added protection. A later Blaupunkt
radio head unit was installed many years ago. All electrical and
mechanical auxiliaries are in excellent working order, including
the clock, sunroof and (cool, not cold) air conditioning - with an
exception to the headlight washers.
Performance is exceptionally strong through the powerband, without
stumble or complaint. The 911 comes complete with original Dealer's
Brochure, 11/75 date coded Spare, Tool Roll, Jack and Porsche
COA.
Recorded Ownership:
D. Utley : New - 10/1978
B. Goudreau : 10/1978 - 11/1995
G. Englert : 11/1995 - 2011
C. Goldsborough : 2011 - 2018
An example worth close attention from enthusiasts and collectors
alike. It is with good measure that these early 930 Turbos are
becoming less and less available on the market as they represent
the new era in Porsche engineering and design. If you have been
looking for a fantastic first generation 930 Turbo, we highly
encourage serious consideration of this great example.
