Vehicle Description
A low mileage example of a rare and special car this is only one of
1,690 Buick Skylarks built in 1953. That year's Skylark was created
to celebrate Buick's 50th anniversary and to show off the GM
styling of the legendary Harley Earle and his team. The Buick
Skylark, from this era of styling exuberance, is considered highly
desirable and this example has only 39,642 original miles. The
entire car is in exceptional condition thanks to a total
restoration.
The 1953 Buick Skylark represents what was essentially a custom
build by GM with a lowered "notched" beltline accentuated by a
sweeping chrome spear, a wrap around windshield lowered by almost 3
inches. The convertible top was also lowered and the wheel wells
are cutout and painted a contrasting white color.
Further setting off the dramatic styling are the Kelsey Hayes
rechromed wire wheels with the Skylark center emblem. Exterior
chrome including the memorable front grill and bumper has been
triple chrome plated to perfection.
The brilliant and original color of Matador Red is in pristine
condition having been carefully applied and buffed to a brilliant
sheen.
The Skylark introduced Buick's new V8 322 cu. in "Nailhead" engine.
It put out 200 H.P. with GM's automatic transmission. With this new
and more powerful engine the Buick Skylark could cruise at 100 mph
when the roads were wide open and speed limits scarce.
This car retains the full range of extras offered on this premium
model with power convertible top, power windows and a "Selectronic"
Radio.
The new interior has been completely restored to original condition
in red and white with gross point carpet as in the original.
This is an excellent offering of a special car that holds a unique
place in American automotive history.
