1961 Lincoln Continental in Saratoga Springs, New York

Vehicle Description

The 4th generation of the Lincoln Continental introduced in 1961 is one of the most sought after cars. It paved the way for the cleaner, fresher style of cars manufactured in the 1960's. The Continental would become an icon leading America into a new automotive frontier.
After the sixty million dollar disaster of the 3rd generation Lincoln that tried to out chrome and be more massive than Cadillac's or Imperials, Ford decided to take a bold step and turned 180 degrees away from opulence. The new Continental would have a wheelbase 8 inches shorter and an overall length 14.8 inches shorter than 1960. The design would be based on "form follows function" with a simple slab style and almost no ornamentation. The rear hinged "suicide" back doors were all the new Continental needed to make it clear it was no ordinary automobile. It is a high water mark in industrial design.
This car is from the introductory year. The color is turquoise with a white top and white interior to match.
