Vehicle Description
The market for classic Japanese import sports cars are really
heating up. We first loved them for their reliability, and now that
nostalgia has set in, we want to re-capture that old magic. So it's
especially important to find a loaded survivor-grade example like
this 1982 Datsun 280ZX.
The mileage on this Z-car is believe to be accurate. That means it
has averaged less than 370 miles annually. There would be more
miles on this car if all we did was take it from our showroom and
go to lunch in Palm Beach once a year! It's that kind of little
use, combined with high respect that creates a stellar survivor.
The Diamond Silver Metallic paint is believed to be original, and
it still radiates a huge luster in the sunshine - so you know this
is a garage-kept baby. The body panels are exceptionally straight,
so the protective black rubber strip looks like an unbroken line as
it circles the car. Plus, this coordinates nicely with the black
pillars, dark T-top glass, and black pinstripe to create a very
uniform total package. And the derails on this one are great, too.
You see it everywhere from the bright 14-inch factory alloys to the
Datsun racing decals on the fender.
Open the door, and you see more evidence of this Datsun's pampered
life. The gray cloth is well preserved on every surface - from the
bucket seats to the carpeted trunk. The 280ZX was not only quick,
but also comfortable. This means a long list of desired features,
including power windows, power rear defogger, and cruise control -
all in perfect working order. The stereo is an AM/FM/cassette
model. There are so many adapters out there for modern music
players that we think it would be a shame to spoil this unique
atmosphere by replacing this very original integrated sound system.
Of course, don't think we forgot about the T-tops! These are like
magnets constantly attracting you to take out the glass and go for
a wind-in-your-hair drive. Plus, thanks to air conditioning that's
been converted to modern R-134a, it's even easier to cruise with
the roof out even on a hot summer's day.
This car's original 2.8-liter motor provides silky smooth torque
and a roar that is definitely reminiscent of the great sports cars
from Europe. Thanks to fuel injection, it starts easily and pulls
smoothly. Despite the complex-looking engine bay, these cars are
rather easy to service, and parts are still plentiful. In fact,
this one was recently serviced, including, a new clutch, full fluid
change, new fuel filter, and fuel pressure gauge. Even new tires
were added with the same type of Goodyears that this received when
new. It's this level of care that reaffirms the kind of respect
this 280ZX has received over the years. And so while the mileage is
quite low, we also know you won't be able to resist adding to the
odometer. After all, the five-speed manual transmission gives you
full control over the motor. Plus, the power steering, fully
independent suspension, and four-wheel disc brakes make for an
unbeatable classic driving package.
An exceptional classic like this needs the right paperwork to back
it up, and so the sale comes with the original window sticker,
dealer invoice, title documentation, and service manuals. This kind
of opportunity for a coddled classic doesn't come around very
often, so call today!
