For Sale: 1978 Pontiac Firebird in Charlotte, North Carolina

Vehicle Description

Looking for a super sharp cruiser that you can parade down Main Street and park at local cruise nights? Looking for a cool piece of Americana that'll turn heads anywhere it goes? If you're in the market for some vintage metal that's stylish, powerful and has lots of history, who says you have to buy a stuffy, high maintenance trailer queen? Just pick up the phone, call your friends at RK Motors Charlotte and we'll hook you up with a great car like this awesome Pontiac Trans Am!

PARALLEL BANDIT

Leaving GM's famous Van Nuys manufacturing facility as a legitimate W-code Trans Am, this striking resto-mod has been fully stripped and treated to a 2-year, ground-up restoration that was completed in late 2016. That rebirth included a glowing coat of Pewter Silver 2-stage, which was detailed with brilliant "PONTIAC and "TRANS AM" decals. And those decals look great spliced with custom-airbrushed Screaming Chicken call-outs. At the front of the car, custom, repositioned grilles hang LED parking lamps and Chevrolet C/K headlights between a vivid arrowhead and aftermarket fog lamps. Behind those grilles, a great looking "T/A-LS" branded Shaker anchors tinted glass beneath brushed stainless trim. At the sides of that hood, familiar wheel spoilers frame custom fender vents, painted mirrors and fifth generation Corvette door handles. And at the back of the car, a rounded D80 trunk wing aligns sequential taillights above polished side-splitter exhaust.

T/A-LS

Lift the car's dramatic hood and you'll find a potent Vortec 5300 small block that'll provide miles of reliable power! Up top, a polished Spectre air tube fronts a subtle Edelbrock throttle body, which fronts a proven LS1 intake. That intake feeds aluminum 241 heads, which weave polished Trans Am valve covers between hot MSD coil packs and sleeved MSD plug wires. Beneath those heads, a cast iron block, honed and acid dipped during the engine's 2014 rebuild, plays well with a GM bottom end and a Lingenfelter Performance cam. Spent gasses are jettisoned through compact shorty headers. And an aluminum radiator wears a polished overflow, corrugated hoses and an electric puller fan. Aesthetically, the engine bay looks fantastic, with a massaged, body-matched firewall complementing braced, body-matched fenders. And thoughtful detailing includes a polished Mr. gasket breather, Eddie Motorsports hood supports and quality Aeromotive fuel components.

A DRIVER'S CAR

At the bottom of this Trans Am, a fully restored chassis is no stranger to miles of all-weather fun! In the middle of those proven bones, a tough 4L60E 4-speed sends power to a familiar GM 10-bolt. Below that stellar powertrain, a lowered suspension combines a powder-coated subframe with a beefy rear sway bar and quality Bilstein shocks. Turns come courtesy of GM power steering. A polished master cylinder cinches two Wilwood calipers around vented rotors, and two GM calipers around drilled rotors. Aluminized exhaust pipes a deep roar through rowdy Magnaflow mufflers. And at the corners of those tubes, modern Snowflakes spin requisite red birds inside two 255/45ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports and two 275/40ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports.

MODERN MODDED

Open this Pontiac's massive doors and you'll find a cozy custom interior that's a great mix of modern amenities and classic style. The clean cockpit begins with tall Procar buckets that feature unique, body-matched vinyl. In front of those seats, a massaged dash hangs a custom, engine-turned instrument panel behind vivid Speedhut telemetry, a handy USB port and controls for modern air conditioning. Below those seats, rich carpet floats Trans Am themed floor mats around a molded console that's finished with a factory shifter. Opposite that console, custom door panels seat big kick speakers, juiced by a modern Kenwood CD player, in front of factory power windows and factory power door locks. In front of the driver, a tilting column spins a leather-wrapped Formula Steering Wheel. And behind the passengers, a carpeted trunk stashes a JL Audio amp and JL Audio subwoofer beneath crisp deck speakers.
