Very few classic cars can carry the distinction as one of the
highest produced cars of its time and as well as some of the rarest
cars of its time, but yet the Ford Mustang is able to do this for
nearly every year. Think about it, as many Mustangs were produced
in 1969 only a fraction left the factory as BOSS 429s. If you
include the 64.5 Mustangs, Over 600,000 mustangs were produced in
just 1965 alone! of those less than 8,000 were k-code 271hp
Mustangs. That's 1.3% of the entire production run. Now you can
understand why were are really excited about this 1965 Ford Mustang
K-code fastback.
Not only did this leave the factory as one of the rarest mustangs
out there, but it also left in arguably the greatest colors - Code
A - Raven Black. It's accented very nicely by the rare palomino
pony interior. Quick observers will notice that it wears all the
correct GT components, but I don't believe it to be a real GT. The
mustang doesn't have much documentation short of owner's manual and
hipo manual. But, from what I can tell, it very well could be a
dealer installed GT package because it's all there - correct
gauges, fog lights, 13/16 front sway bar, AX coded steering box,
exhaust out the rear, correct stripe, badging, etc.. But without
documentation, there's no way to know for certain.
The paint shows very well and we would call it good driver
condition. It's black so it shows a lot of the minor flaws that
colors like red and yellow wont. But a good wet sand and buff and
this car would eliminate a lot of the flaws that have occurred over
time. Most of which are just from road debris. Whoever painted it
clearly knew what they were doing because the car is straight and
clean. I'd just say it's probably a 10 - 15 years on the paint.
Pop open the hood and you'll see the correct 289ci V8 wearing the
correct big exhaust manifolds, correct dampener and correct dual
point distributor. These K-codes made 271hp at 6,000 rpms! Today
this engine fires up easily and sounds great. Backed to the engine
is the correct BX code close ratio top loader 4-speed manual with a
8.8 rear out back.
Inside the interior shows extremely well. The tan palomino interior
features bucket pony seats, folding 2+2 rear seats, wood grain
steering wheel and a upgraded AM/FM cassette player. It's a great
accent to the black exterior and a color combination that you just
never see on these old mustangs.
