For Sale: 1965 Ford Thunderbird in Palmetto, Florida

Vehicle Description

1965 Ford Thunderbird Convertible

Ford's Thunderbird went through a lot of changes through the years. From the small birds of the 50s to the Super and Turbo Coupes of the 80s. They have filled every need, be it a sports car, muscle car or luxury vehicle, and they have done it all well. First designed to compete with the Chevrolet Corvette in the 2-seater roadster market, the 1965 is a much larger, higher optioned big block cruiser than its predecessor.

Why This Car Is Special

This example is a lovely Frost Turquoise with a white top that would look as at home at the beach as it would a nice restaurant in the city. Well optioned and very well kept, this Thunderbird is a joy to look at and drive.

Mechanical

The 300 horsepower 390 CID V8 engine still resides under the hood and is backed by an automatic transmission shifted on the column. Power steering and power brakes are to be expected in a personal luxury vehicle and this T-Bird has them. It is a factory AC car, but the compressor has been removed. Everything else appears to still be in place. The options don't stop there. It has power windows, power locks, remote mirror, AM/FM/Cassette radio, power convertible top and tilt away steering wheel. Front disc brakes were added for 1965, which was much needed with the size and weight of these vehicles. You can certainly feel a difference between a 1964 and a 1965 when it comes to braking abilities.

Interior

The interior on these Thunderbirds is my personal favorite. The wrap around back seat, the sweeping speedometer, front bucket seats, chrome trim everywhere you look, and tilt away steering wheel surround you with comfort and style. You feel as if you've entered the cockpit of a futuristic vehicle and driving becomes your only mission. As you ease into the bucket seats and secure the seat belts, every switch and button is right where it should be. At the press of a button the automatic convertible top folds into the trunk area, completely hidden from site. This power top works as it should and is in great shape. The white top is a great contrast to the Turquoise inside and out as well and is accented by the white wall tires. The interior is the correct 27 Code Turquoise as designated by the door tag.

Exterior

The white top is a great contrast to the Turquoise inside and out as well and is accented by the white wall tires. Frost Turquoise is a beautiful color that really fits the lines of the fourth generation Thunderbird. The hub caps, trim and chrome pieces are in great shape as well. The paint is the correct 4 code Frost Turquoise and it has been professionally repainted. The 1965 Thunderbird also received sequential taillights. Once of the coolest features ever to be put on a vehicle, the taillights flash in a pattern from inside to outside pointing the way to your turn for the person behind you.

Conclusion

The Thunderbird is a treasured American classic and this example highlights why. With block power, every option you could want in 1965 and killer good looks, what more could you ask for?
