Vehicle Description
This 1998 Ford Mustang GT convertible features the sharp form that
almost singlehandedly rekindled enthusiasm for its model and with
just 55,000 miles logged and having benefitted from good care and
plenty of shelter, it offers the promise of plenty of fun filled
open air motoring in the future.
It still wears the same black shade it left the factory with and
continues to cut an impressive appearance. The fourth generation of
Mustangs, of which this specimen is a proud member, marked the
model's first redesign in more than 15 years and was well-received
when it debuted. It's easy to see why - this is an effortlessly
appealing car that's both sporty and yet a little understated at
the same time. No doubt aided by a lot of shelter from the elements
over its lifetime, the paint has defied the color's tendency to age
prematurely and still features an impressive shine. From all
appearances, this Mustang has been well-looked after - its clear
and healthy headlight and taillight lenses are another sign it
hasn't been left outdoors to bake, while up front a closer
inspection will show that its lower chin, so often an area that
gets abused during real world use, shows no signs of having been
run aground. The appeal of piloting this open air classic on a nice
day is undeniable, but should the skies darken while you're out on
the road, a power black convertible top sits neatly underneath its
boot, waiting to be called into duty to protect you.
The black leather interior has come through the years in strong
fashion. This GT has yet to see the inside of a restoration shop,
and while you can see just a bit of wear on the seating, you'll
come across nothing to diminish your enthusiasm, and the level of
functionality it displays is downright impressive. All of the
comfort and convenience features on board - including the power
driver's seats, power windows and locks, and power top - work just
as intended, and the air conditioning is blowing nice and cold. The
dash area also looks sharp. In spite of its UV sensitive color, its
dash pad shows no splits or warpage and the gauges inside its
cluster remain clear and easily readable. At its center, a Pioneer
AM/FM/CD stereo stands by to handle your audio needs. Airbags on
both the driver and passenger side add a measure of safety should
the unforeseen happen and the added anti-theft device will help
ensure this drop top never leaves your possession unintended. The
trunk area is clean and protected by a still fresh-looking seal to
keep the elements out.
Below the hood, the engine compartment has been left in stock
configuration and is nicely detailed. The fuel-injected 4.6 liter
V8 that powers this Mustang is a durable, well-respected engine -
there are still quite a number of its kind out on the road today.
It teams with a 4 speed automatic overdrive transmission that's
shifting securely and whose overdrive gear provides engine-sparing
revs on the highway. Power disc brakes at all four corners bring
this sharp looking Ford to quick stops as needed, while power
steering makes it easy to navigate on its 16" stock GT rims
outfitted with Goodyear Eagle GT tires. While the undercarriage
shows some of the patina you would expect after 20 years of real
world use, it continues to look strong, with solid floorpans and
arrow straight frame rails. From this vantage point you can also
see the bracing that Ford put into use to keep their Mustang from
suffering the cowl-shake that often plagued competing droptops of
the era.
Looking good and running strong, this 1998 Ford Mustang GT offers a
great balance of classic charm and modern conveniences and is a ton
of fun to drive. Call today!
