This Rare 1961 Jaguar XKE Series I Flat Floor Fixed Head Coupe was
originally dispatched on October 12, 1961 and delivered to its
original owner A.S. Flagg of Los Angeles, CA on December 15,
1961.
This is a very early Flat Floor Fixed Head Coupe, and it one of the
51 "transitional" flat floor coupes built by Jaguar immediately
after ceasing production of the outside catch bonnet but prior to
production of the dropped wheel wells, which were adopted in March
1962. It is 1 of 40 produced boot and door latched (later models
utilized machined latches). This is 1 of 3 coupes produced in Cream
and 1 of 1 which includes "Tinted Glass".
The vehicle was sold to its prior owners in Atlanta, GA in the
early 70's. The owner decided to remove the original engine,
installing a small block Ford powerplant; however the original
engine still remained with the car. The owner passed away in 2011,
and the car was left sitting in his basement.
The current collectors procured this Flat Floor coupe and decided
the proper thing to do was to bring it back to its original state.
A 3 year nut and bolt rotisserie restoration was performed to JCNA
standards and was completed in 2015.
Since its restoration, this car has earned many accolades, at the
Hilton Head Motoring Festival and the Concours of the Americas at
St. Johns (Formerly Meadowbrook) where it earned awards in both
classes.
