Vehicle Description
Gateway Classic Cars of Atlanta is proud to offer this frame up
restored 1955 Thunderbird. Billed as the first "Personal Luxury
Car". The 1st generation T-Bird in comparison to the previous year
introduction of the Corvette, outsold the Corvette by a ratio of 10
to 1 with over 16,000 units sold in the first-year offering. This
particular "Baby Bird" with a VIN ending in #178 is believed to be
first day of production. This Thunderbird has received a stunning
frame up restoration after twenty-five years in storage with only
five hundred miles since. Featuring the standard 292 Y-block engine
and Fordomatic two speed automatic transmission this was a cruiser
special. Not built as a high-performance car, the personal luxury
first-generation Thunderbirds were loved and adored by Hollywood
and the well-heeled including the enigmatic Marylyn Monroe
photographed in a black Thunderbird very similar to the offering
here. Our "Baby Bird" for sale here in the Atlanta showroom
glistens with Tuxedo Black paint and a two-tone interior, black and
yellow for a personal touch. Highly optioned with power windows,
power brakes, telescoping steering wheel and six-way power seats
this Bird was the go to personal luxury cruiser. Standing alone as
the sexiest car of the mid-fifties, the Baby Bird ruled supreme in
the two-seat category. All that style, glamour and grace can be
yours still today. Options on this Thunderbird include; convertible
top in excellent condition, power steering, power brakes,
telescoping steering wheel, power windows, six-way seats and a
twelve-volt conversion. For over 100 HD photos and a running
