The "shoebox" Fords are always a very in-demand vehicle. However,
this 1949 Ford Custom Deluxe coupe takes it to another level.
Especially when you consider the flathead V8 was completely
professionally rebuilt and was paired with a 5-speed manual
transmission. Oh, and how many have you seen with power front disc
brakes? This Deluxe Coupe is an awesome cruiser. Fully documented
with a book of receipts, we can show that over $41,000 has been
spent on this car to make it a great cruiser.
The Club Coupe body is one of the most sought-after from this era.
Ford first post-war design looks best with the long trunk that
gives it good overall proportions. More than just look great, they
were more expensive than the sedans when new, and that keeps them
desirable today. The paint is a gorgeous burgundy that is offset by
the clean tan vinyl and cloth interior that looks incredible. In
fact the interior is where this car really starts to shine. New
carpet, new gauge cluster, 5-speed on the floor and not the column,
new headliner, new seat covers, new window mouldings etc..
Ultimately, inside and out this car is something you would gladly
showoff. The paint appears to be about 10-15 year old, but you can
tell in the photos it shows extremely well.
The clean presentation continues under the hood. The flathead V8 is
showcased in the famous FoMoCo blue. Although I don't think these
engines ever donned this color, the results speak for themself.
Fully rebuilt in February of 2016 by Pilot Engines, the team
completely dissasembled the engine to the bare block, honed the
cylinder, resurfaced the heads then drilled the block to install
adjustable lifters. The also installled new new rings, pistons, new
intake, new carbs, and a new MSD distributor during the complete
engine overhaul. All said and done the work was just short of
$5,000.
Now the engine bay is nicely detailed and setup to be proudly
displayed at your local car show. But more than just looking good,
the flathead is a great engine for enjoying classic motoring. But
on the road this car is a blast, the side pipes create a great
sound, the power front disc brakes help it stop very easy and the
5th gear provides you a excellent highway gear.
Few cars can present as period-correct and then have such tasteful
upgrades to help the overall experience of driving it down the road
as this one. Don't miss your chance to enjoy a car the way it was
meant to be! Contact Shelton Classics & Performance at 704-663-0432
