For Sale: 1972 Pontiac LeMans GT in Watkinsville, Georgia

Vehicle Description

This is a real "1 of 5 car", a very rare car indeed a 1972 Pontiac lemans GT 455 ho convertible (documented per Jim Mattison at PHS and phs documents). I have owned this car for around 20 years ( has been registered and tagged in my name.. and is insured thru Haggerty/great American for 90,000.00)..Recently finished ( around 4 months ago) a #1 level resto on it.. My car drives and operates like it's new..because it essentially is new..The power is incredible..it is a dream to drive period!.. And i will tell you it gets all the attention it deserves..This is a really beautiful and extremely rare car..period! What makes a restored  rare car worth more? 3 reasons..1: rarity of the car, 2..level of restoration and 3..correctness/originality of the restoration..And I really try to meet the requirements to achieve that goal with out going to the extreme level of "concourse" ..Alot of parts are restored to look near new.. but they are not..so they are not "perfect".. I try to stay away as much as possible form "reproduction parts.". although it is impossible at times NOT to use them!..

This car is the real deal.   everything on this car has been restored ( rotiss.. frame off..)  The car is turnkey.  No additional work is needed to finish..It is probably the most correct in every detail 72 you will find. From the near nos T3 headlights to the very nice original rear taillight lens..it is a very rare and correct and beautiful  "muscle car"..all items work as it they should..It is a #1 restored car, by no means "perfect" and not concourse ..not recommended for a a daily driver..Color is Brittany beige, interior is dark saddle, top is black..paint is polished to a glass like finish...Hood scoops are painted black..I like this, if you don't, I can change it to the correct color.. also buyer has the choice of no spoiler, or painted body color . ( I have 2 deck lids)..

This is also a GM "brass hat executive" ordered car. You could NOT get/order a GTO "convertible" in 1972, so when he ordered his Lemans he also ordered the options to make it as close as a GTO convertible as possible.  This included adding the famous 455 H/O round port with ram air, the GT and all other options, making this a very rare.  "Brass hat" highly rare desirable car.  See PHS (pontiac historical services) attached picture of the actual factory order and documentation.

The care has a very late manufacture date. 5th month of 1972 and could very well be one of the last of any GM A body muscle cars manufactured.  After the "brass hat" enjoyed It (for 3-4 months) it was delivered on 8/72 to Taber Pontiac in Atlanta  GA. Then sold to a Teacher at Ga. Tech and it's been here in Ga. ever since!

Details: 455 H/O with RAM AIR .#s matching YB block (4 bolt main) build date early May. 1972. (completely rebuilt of course. trw forged.30 over. arp 4 bolt  main studs). 7f6 Heads date are late 71. Correct 1972 2 piece aluminum intake 485640 late 1971. 7042270 ram air automatic carb date 2081.   1972 PQ  trans matching # no date. The original posi 12 bolt rear (XT 3:07 ratio 3969278, only date I could find is 123rd day then "e") I'm certain it is the original. Unitized (electronic) ignition (1112133 (oct.1971) with NOS wires (first year for this).  It is not unusual for dates to be earlier than mfr date of car on such a late/rare mfr. car, am fm radio,.gauges & tach,. A/C, .GT option,.  Custom sport steering wheel is in incredible condition!  (Very rare and NOT reproduced).  Seat belt warning (first year for this also). I added power windows/trunk, tilt steering wheel and the honeycomb wheels and the rear spoiler, which buyer has the choice of no spoiler. ( I have 2 deck lids)...  Also it has cruise control (works of course) which was on it when I got it.  I don't know if it was dealer installed?

Most of these I added were available from dealer when bought new with the exception of Power windows and the tilt..  The only thing NOT correct is the exhaust system.I use the "Pypes" 2.5 pipes X exhaust system, this engine deserves it!. But I will put on an original style if requested. The tips are  correct as original and installed correctly. It has new BF Goodrich radial TA's.

Please see attached PHS for more info. The only thing NOT correct is the exhaust system.I use the "Pypes" 2.5 pipes X exhaust system, this engine deserves it!.
