When it comes to classic cars this 1981 Firebird Esprit really checks off the right boxes. Low documented miles (42,000). Long-term ownership (36 years). Regular maintenance with a box full of receipts. A rust-free body with great mechanicals. And one of the best looking cars from its era.
This Pontiac was purchased by its second owners in 1982 and has been meticulously cared for ever since. While it received Ziebart rustproofing in 1983, it has never seen a winter. The underside looks fantastic and the no-hit body has all its original sheetmetal. The black factory paint and striping are almost completely original and in remarkable condition. The tinted T-tops are in great shape too. And the 15” Rally II wheels look so nice on this car and wear Uniroyal tires with very few miles.
The engine is the original 3.8L / 231ci V6. It runs perfectly and is exceptionally smooth throughout the rpm range. Same with the TH350 automatic transmission and its console shifter. Note all the original emissions equipment remains in place. The power steering and power brakes make the car easy for anyone to drive, and the cruise control is very nice to have as well. It all makes for a very enjoyable cruiser that doesn’t beat you up or wear you out.
The interior is in amazing condition throughout. Seats, carpet, door panels, headliner, dashboard; you’d never believe this car is almost 40 years old! The tan color looks great with the black exterior and matching stripes. I especially like the look with the T-tops removed. Everything is original except the armrests and headliner, and the modern Pioneer stereo. All indicator lights work properly, as do the horn, heater, wipers, and parking brake.
It is very hard to find a classic car in this condition at this price point. And we’re not talking about a Pinto or a Delta 88 here; this is a black second generation Firebird with T-tops! Note too that 1981 was the final year for this design. Whether you’re looking for your first collectible car or wanting to add a Pontiac to your collection, you won’t get many opportunities like this one.
