Vehicle Description
Real SS 396 as verified in the vin #. Only 3,145 miles since body
off frame restoration. Ilncredible fit and finish.
EXTERIOR: Stunning body and paint. My hat is off to the bodyman
that restored this car. It is laser straight and the body gaps are
amazing. I followed all the gaps, each is square, tight and flush.
Doors click shut with your pinky. Beautiful red metallic paint is
laid out like glass. Even the jambs are slick. All the chrome and
trim un the front and back is new. Windshield, weatherstrips and
fuzzy widow seals are replaced. Has white convertible top with
glass window, in excellent condition. Dressed up with polished 15
inch wheels on BFG tires (little beefier in back).
INTERIOR: Very nice inside. The upholstery, door panels and carpet
have been replaced. Cushions feel good in the seats. Restored dash-
new pad, instrument bezel with chrome trim, gauge cluster with
tachometer and a new retro stereo. Glovebox liner and mirror are
new. Original SS steering wheel has typical crack at the top.
Looking up at the convertible, the frame is clean metal with smooth
satin black paint. Has matching white boot.
MOTOR COMPARTMENT: Detailed very nicely. The 396 engine has a nice
clean coat of Chevy orange paint, new air cleaner and decals on
top. Stock manifolds. The jambs are painted real slick. Inner
fenders, bottom of hood, firewall are clean satin black. Has new
splash shields stapled in. Very tidy and proper. Correct hoses and
clamps, has hood insulation, new fan shroud, spring clamp battery
cables, Delco battery topper etc. Brake booster and master, hinges
and core support area are detailed. New alternator.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Very clean metal with nice coat of gray spatter
paint. Has mat, rally wheel spare and jack. Jamb and under trunk
lid painted real slick. New weatherstrip.
UNDERSIDE: Body was removed from the frame during restoration. The
floors are spotless metal with a smooth semi gloss black finish.
Clean inner rockers and lower 1/4s. Chassis is also clean metal
painted black. Front end is rebuilt, new shocks. Has sway bar. In
back it has boxed control arms, new shocks and springs. Bottom of
motor is spotless, has new fuel pump. Turbo 400 automatic,
driveshaft is detailed with factory paint markings. New gas tank
and dual exhaust with correct tips. Emergency brake cables are
hooked up. Exceptionally nice underneath.
138 code is in the vin for SS. Starting in 1969 it was no longer in
the vin which makes cloning a 69 or 70 very easy. This and the fact
they only made 2,286 SS Convertibles in 68 makes this a very
desirable car. Again, I am very impressed with the fit and finish.
