Vehicle Description
You're golden in this 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible, the only
convertible built in America at the time, and the last factory
production Cadillac convertible. You're lucky you don't have to
scout the jungles of South America to find this El Dorado, we have
it here at Art & Speed in Collierville, TN!
This car is big and beautiful, nearly nineteen feet long, and wears
its original colors of Phoenician Ivory over black leather. The car
benefitted from a light respray, not having needed any body work.
Although not a competitive show car, this rare color combination
presents beautifully on the Eldorado.
Slide behind the wheel and settle into luxurious black leather
seats fit for a king. Take note of the standard comfort and
convenience features: Six-way power seats, power windows and door
locks, automatic climate control, AM/FM signal seeking radio with
automatic power antenna, three-speed wipers, and a quartz digital
clock. The interior is in very good condition, from the seats to
the carpets to the door panels and dash, including gauges and
knobs.
Look through the windshield over the gargantuan hood and ponder the
massive 8.2-liter/500 cubic inch V8 engine lurking beneath. Sure,
emissions regulations hampered power, but the motor develops
surprising torque, and the engineering remains impressive. The
engine casting is high in nickel, and is only slightly heavier than
a Chevy 350. The front-wheel-drive configuration with, internally-a
THM-400 transmission, was compact and eliminated torque steer, an
accomplishment still eluding newer vehicles. If you really need
more horsepower, the engine hungrily responds to a relatively
straightforward aftermarket EFI conversion and the addition of
headers, work that the Art & Speed Garage conveniently
performs.
Put the automatic transmission in gear and experience standard
Cadillac Eldorado drivability features: Automatic parking brake
release, automatic level control, variable ratio power steering,
four-wheel disc brakes, and steel belted radial ply tires. The 1976
Cadillac Eldorado floats like a cloud.
While not actually "the last American convertible," as touted by GM
in 1976, we'll probably never see ragtop land yachts like the
Eldorado convertible produced again, making them the grand finale
of a bygone era. The last of an illustrious breed of the American
luxury convertible, it doesn't have to be the end of the line for
you. Call Art & Speed today at (901) 850-0507.
