Now for sale in our Houston Showroom is this mean 1987 Buick Regal
Grand National "GNX Tribute". The Regal Turbo was a popular street
beast of the late 80's, with only around 7900 produced and was the
intro to the GNX series that came about with its limited production
of 547 built. This Regal is a full-on tribute to the GNX, and
mechanically serves it justice. Powering this machine is a
custom-built 3.8L V6, built by Weber Power Products, paired to a
pro-built 200R4 4-speed automatic transmission with a 2800RPM
Stall, built by Ted's Transmissions. The engine features a set of
Champion Racing heads with 1.65-inch intake and exhaust (custom
ported and assembled by Otto's Performance), Diamond Pistons,
Forged Rods, Coated cam, rod, and main bearings, align honed block,
reciprocating assembly balanced, all ARP fasteners, and it also
sports Methanol Injection. Looking under the hood, you will find
that the turbo features a larger heat shield to accommodate the
much larger than stock turbo and exhaust, along with an adjustable
boost popoff control. Properly tuned at 21 PSI, this mill put down
501RWHP and 480.7TQ at the wheels (Dyno sheets from PowerFab
Autosports available). This Regal took the tribute to the next
level by even having the upgraded GNX rear end, which was put only
on GNXs, due to the high HP and TQ. This special ordered feature
makes this Regal hard to separate it from a true GNX. Also included
are new tubular upper front control arms, custom lower control
arms, all new bushings, ball joints, tie rod ends, and pitman arm.
When you fire this turbo beast up, initially all you hear is that
muffled Buick Turbo V6, with maybe just a little lope from its
custom-ground cam; but otherwise, if you had your eyes closed, you
wouldn't know what a nasty competitor this is. Depress the hidden
switch for the electric exhaust cutouts, and things get
interesting, with the addition of the crackle and pop that these
mega-boosted Buick Turbos were famous for. When you're ready, lift
up the B&M Quicksilver ratchet shifter, pull back to drive, and
ratchet back to first...get staged for your burnout, and watch
those fat Hoosier Drag radials go up in smoke (and your friends can
watch the car disappear in the cloud, too)! You'll know this isn't
a regular Turbo Buick when you light it up. Outside, the gloss Lamp
Black finish was applied to the exterior by Stroble&Twigg Auto
Restoration, after removing all paint on exterior sheet metal to
the bare metal, using a 2-stage Epoxy finish in the proper 19U GM
paint code. Weather stripping and seals were all replaced at the
time as well; so, this car is almost like new! The interior was
also treated to the "replace everything to original" strategy, and
is in very good condition, with a new headliner, new seats up
front, new rear seat upholstery, new door panels, and new console.
The gauge cluster is complete with a GNX repro Stewart-Warner GNX
cluster, and the speedo has been calibrated for the new gauge
cluster installation. Additional features include Air Conditioning,
Antilock Power Brakes, Cruise Control, AM/FM/CD Radio, Performance
Tires, Power Locks, Power Steering, Power Seats, Power Windows, and
Seat Belts. For more information on this 1987 Buick Regal Grand
