1963 1/2 Ford Galaxie 500 R-Code
Back in 1963, Ford was about to become the performance king both on
the track and in the showroom, with its legendary rated 425
horsepower, 427ci big block V8 with dual four-barrel carburetors
(real dyno numbers showed 508 hp) available in its Thunderbirds,
Galaxies, and Fairlanes. Of the cars fitted with the new
powerplant, it was Ford's full size Galaxie 500XL that stole the
show. Appearing as a 1963 model, the 500XL was based on Ford's
newest NASCAR efforts and proved to be an instant sales success.
Ford built 18,551 Galaxie 500XLs in 1963,
Built fewer than 100 Galaxies that had the R-code engine
What makes a difference between a good collector investment car and
a Great one is all about the little things of major importance,
like the accuracy of 'born with' components right down to the
paint, crayon, and chalk markings during assembly inspections.
Very Limited Built and not many have survived with this
pedigree...
Well deserved of being called 'The SledgeHammer'
What's with the "sledgehammer" moniker? To be totally honest, this
full-size Ford is the automotive equivalent of a sledgehammer.
