Vehicle Description
This 1957 Ford Thunderbird convertible was totally disassembled,
stripped of paint, repaired as necessary, primed with epoxy primer,
then painted original Ford Flame Red, with two-stage urethane and
clear-coated. The frame was sand-blasted and painted with two-stage
black urethane paint. All bushings, ball joints, shocks, hardware
and mounts were replaced, and four new springs were installed. The
car was then assembled using mostly new bolts. The entire brake
system was overhauled and filled with Silicone DOT 5 fluid. This
Thunderbird is powered by a 312ci 8-cylinder engine mated to an
automatic transmission, both of which were overhauled, along with
the rear end. It has almost entirely all-new wiring installed, and
the generator was replaced with an alternator. The original
ignition points were removed and a Pertonics electronic ignition
was installed. An aftermarket air conditioner was added, as well as
an AM/FM radio with cassette. A complete new interior kit was put
in, including the dash. All bumpers and plated parts were replated
or replaced with new. A new black soft-top was installed and the
porthole hardtop was painted in off-white. New hardware, moldings,
glass and headliner were fitted, as well as five new Firestone
whitewall tires. The original factory invoice accompanies the car.
It runs and drives well and has approximately 600 miles since the
completion of the restoration.
