Vehicle Description
1946 Ford Deluxe Coupe
Initially the Deluxe model for Ford was used to bridge the gap
between the Ford Line and the Lincoln Line. Think of it as a
mid-range offering. WW II started, and all production shifted to
the war effort, halting production in 1942. It started back up in
1945 using the 1942 Frame and components with a few design
upgrades. This became the 1946 Model offering and the car seen here
for consignment.
This modified and upgraded Coupe presents in very nice overall
condition. Runs and looks great and is nice and clean upside and
underside. Color combination highlighted by good brightwork and
chrome, will have you showing up in style and in a mostly original
car.
Exterior
Red and Black play the contrast game between each other, with red
on the bodywork, and black accenting the fenders. This theme is
seen throughout with the interior as well. Bumpers and badging have
the red accenting which was new but typical for the Deluxe line for
1946. Wonderfully curved brightwork runs the length of the car at
the waistline and adds highlighting to the fenders, wrapping them
as well. An Art Deco style hood ornament with blue glass adorns the
hood, and chrome is seen on the window surrounds, as well as
mirrors and plenty more on the grille area. 5-spoke chromed Cragar
wheels are seen all around.
Interior
Keeping in the color theme red bolsters surround black ribbed
inserts, all in yards of crushed Velour on front buckets and rear
bench seats. A near perfect headliner in red felt covers the
passenger roof. Doors are lined with velour, black accents and
lower third carpeting. The neatly styled dash is painted red, and
drips with Art Deco style chrome, large round speedometer and
clock, as well as various necessary gauges. Red carpet screams from
the floor area, and a new automatic shifter is seen in the center
of the buckets. A large box on the passenger side under dash, will
warm the soul in cold weather.
Drivetrain
A hefty 351ci Cleveland V8 producing 300hp is nestled under the
hood. It is topped with a 4-barrel carburetor. Exhaling is done
through headers, and a performance exhaust system. A chromed air
cleaner cap, and valve covers show off the power plant which sits
in a sea of red engine bay. The 3-speed automatic transmission
delivers power to the rear wheels which are suspended with semi
elliptic springs in the rear, and solid axle buggy springs in the
front. Zooming in for a close look at the underside reveals all has
been restored and upgraded. Front disc and rear drum brakes are
seen, and a Ford 9" Differential puts plenty of power to the
blacktop.
Only 361 miles have been clocked since the build was completed.
Attention to detail, preservation of original design, and nice
upgrades make this Deluxe Deeluxxe! A driver if you want, or a show
car if you need the attention.
