Crevier Classic Cars are offering a one of a kind 1959 Fiat Abarth 750 Zagato.
This Car was officially called the Fiat 600 Derivazione Abarth 750 Carrozzeria Zagato. It was built on the floor pan of the first Fiat 600, which was modified by Abarth and fitted with a body made by Zagato. Zagato was famous for his low-drag aluminum bodywork: most of the Italian sports cars and racing cars were bodied in their shop. The aerodynamic shapes of the body were accentuated by the famous double-bubble roof and weighing only 1,179 Ibs. Its top speed was about 100 mph!
With a high compression head and specially made exhaust, the produced power was 47php at 6,000 rpm. A number of prototype cars were made in 1956, and one of them appeared at the 1956 Mille Miglia and placed second in class. A highlight was the 1957 Mille Miglia where Alfonso Thiele won his class, with two of his stablemates finishing second and third. Thiele finished the 1,000 miles with an average speed of 73.7 mph.
This car was discovered in a garage in Italy during the running of the historic Mille Miglia in 2001. The car is correct with just one repaint in light blue. It has period fog lights and the largely original interior, with Zagato-style seats now fitted. The 747cc was freshly rebuilt using high-strength chromoly internal components. An electronic ignition system was added as well as a performance air filter a top a larger carburetor. The car has its original wheels with the exception of hubcaps.
