Vehicle Description
1985 Chevrolet El Camino
Back in the 1950's a woman from an Australian Farm requested a car
that she could go to church on Sunday, and haul pigs on Monday. The
Idea was hatched for a new kind of transportation, that being the
multi-use vehicle. GM's version was the El Camino aptly named after
the Spanish "The Way".
Seen here is an absolutely gorgeous example of a 1985 El Camino.
Originally it was owned by a funeral home and utilized as the
flower car. A very complete restoration, where every body panel was
blasted then repaired (if needed), then painted. Everything about
this car says awesome restoration, bringing it back to better than
showroom condition, all in a space of 13 labor of love years.
Exterior
Flawless Red covers the immaculately restored exterior. In person,
this paint is so deep you could dive in and get lost in it. A red
integrated rear bumper has been added utilizing original style
taillight configuration. Brightwork, front bumper, grille and
badging are pristine. As expected the bed is nicer than the day the
car was new, and finished in red. Edelbrock chromed aluminum slot
wheels, with knockoff style hubs adorn each corner, and beg to be
looked at.
Interior
The ultra-clean cloth with vinyl bolsters interior split bench
seating runs the width of the interior and sports an ergonomic
vinyl armrest. Grey carpeting fills the floor, and grey vinyl, with
molded plastic and just a hint of carpet makes up the door panels.
Within the panels are toggles to work the mirrors, and windows, as
well as locks. An iconic for mid 80's design, the use of the square
and its variant, the rectangle come together to produce the
dashboard area. This houses the radio, temperature controls, glove
compartment, as well as a separate rectangle for instrumentation,
and vital gauges. The faux wood grain is put to use on the
passenger dash, as well as the center of the steering wheel.
Drivetrain
A 4.3 Liter fuel injected engine, with all the federally mandated
emission controls, (which killed the muscle car...if all be it
temporarily), air conditioning and mostly original parts, fills the
very clean engine bay. A 3-speed Turbo Hydramatic 350 automatic
transmission is installed and shifts very smoothly. This car
features power front disc, and rear drum brakes as well as double A
arm front and coil sprung rear suspension.
WOW! Is the word to describe this consignment. Exquisitely redone
and presents in awesome shape with a great color combination, and
plenty of shine to go around. I'd say the initial wish was
fulfilled (the church on one day and market on another) although
this writer is not sure how many pigs will fit onto the back bed,
let alone if you would even remotely consider putting them there in
the first place....I'd save it for going to church, and if you are
not into that, just seeing this car is a true religious experience!
A comprehensive booklet which contains much documentation including
the original build sheet, comes with this beauty.
