Vehicle Description
The Volkswagen Thing originated as a German runabout military
vehicle known as the "Kubelwagen"...Kubel meaning "bucket" and
Wagen meaning "Car". A name, which is quite fitting for the design.
The Thing was only called "The Thing" in North America where it
went on sale in 1973; elsewhere it was known as the Trekker, the
Safari or simply Type 181. Spartan by design, the Thing became
quite popular in the US market as it appealed especially to the
youth. The Thing cost only $2,775.00 dollars making it affordable
to the American public. To this day, the quirky Thing, is
recognizable and popular among motoring enthusiasts.
GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this nice 1973 Thing for your
consideration. Finished in Sunflower Yellow, this is a nice little
Thing. The body is pretty clean and the paint work is nice overall.
The car features a white removable hardtop and also rides on alloy
wheels with new General Grabber AT tires. The car features a rear
mounted 1.6L Flat 4 cylinder mated to an easy going 4-speed manual
transmission. The car also has wipers, mirrors and quad exhaust.
The interior is very simple and straightforward and features black
vinyl seats that appear to be from a Beetle. The dash is simple and
clean and features instrumentation and a heater. Everything is
clean overall.
A solid driving Thing, this little guy is the perfect summer beach
cruiser and would look stunning outside your cottage!
