Vehicle Description
Benefitting from an extensive redesign effort the very year it came
out, this 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is about as sharp an
example of its class of upper echelon Mustangs as you're likely to
find. It's also lightly travelled - having logged only around
25,000 miles - so it's in its mechanical prime and carries some
serious power under its hood to go along with an array of upgrades
and an exterior tastefully modified at the hands of the Shelby team
that's been associated with performing wizardry on this universally
respected model pretty much since its debut.
There's a great balance on display here, combining modifications
that up the Mustang's already substantial performance and curb
appeal with an eye-catching yet understated delivery. Shelby
doesn't make changes just for the sake of novelty, so every
deviation from the Mustang norm has a purpose. All of these
modifications sit on a platinum silver exterior that looks very
much like it did when this special edition muscle car left the
showroom, where it no doubt had held court on a display turntable
for daily throngs of admirers. Despite the obvious temptation this
ride presents due to its extreme power, you'll find no signs of
asphalt abuse here - the low-slung front fascia hasn't been run
aground and all body panels show tight even gaps and proper
alignment. The pair of broad white stripes running down the hood to
the grille and aggressive front air dam display no serious
blemishes and all badging and emblems, including the signature
snakes on the grille and front fenders, are in great shape.
The Shelby treatment is most closely associated with exterior
modifications and drivetrain upgrades, but it also confers some
great details on this leather interior. The seating in both front
and back sport two-tone, black and gray inserts that show a lot of
craftsmanship and, having been subjected to relatively little
driver and passenger use over the years, still look very fresh.
Being a relatively modern muscle car yields a number of advantages
as far as interior features, so you'll find cruise control, power
seats, power windows and both driver and passenger airbags on
board. The featured Shaker AM/FM/CD sound system also offers
Bluetooth and satellite radio connectivity and sits just below a
generously proportioned screen to display the readings of the
navigation system - another welcome included option. Pop the deck
lid in back and you'll be greeted by a clean looking trunk area
with a branded Shelby mat lining its floor, and a fresh-looking
rubber seal to keep the elements out.
This GT500 fully delivers on the promise of its aggressive
exterior. The 5.4 liter supercharged V8 sitting in a very clean
engine bay produces an outstanding 540 horsepower with standard
tuning and it sounds awesome - deep and commanding, without being
too overbearing. The powerplant teams with a 6-speed manual
transmission to give you full control of the otherworldly output on
hand. Shelby focused a lot of effort on taking the Mustang's
already agile handling to a new level, adding suspension
improvements in both front and back that upped skidpad performance
while not compromising drivability in more commonly encountered
situations - while many performance-centric cars are a task to
drive, this car certainly isn't one of them. Upgraded power disc
brakes at all four corners bring rapid stops, while smooth power
steering adds to this Shelby's driver-friendliness as it liquifies
asphalt on its 19" SVT wheels outfitted with BF Goodrich low
profile tires.
