Vehicle Description
Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1980 Mercedes-Benz 250GD
Cabriolet, finished in Signal Yellow with a black soft top and a
grey plaid interior. Although developed as a military vehicle in
the mid-1970s, the W460 civilian Gelndewagen models were first
sold in 1979 and have been popular ever since among well-heeled
buyers who can afford the exclusivity of a hand-built Mercedes. The
short wheel base convertibles like this one are, in this writer's
opinion, the most charming and versatile of the lot.
Paint shows to a good driver standard. Like any G-Wagen from this
era that hasn't undergone an expensive restoration (and with a
stratospheric asking price to match), this truck does have some
rust. It's more solid than most at this price point - the most
significant trouble spot is the rear valance, beneath the tailgate
where the spare tire carrier latch is located. A replacement panel
is included with the sale. Interior has seen diamond plate added
the floors but is otherwise stock, with original plaid upholstery
on the door panels and seats.
Air conditioning? Stereo? Cruise control? Ha. If you want those
conveniences get a new G550. But what you do get with a classic
G-Wagen is the only vintage 4x4 of its kind with three locking
differentials,a five-speed manual transmission and a
normally-aspirated Diesel that while admittedly slow, will run,
literally, forever. This example runs and drives great and is ready
for whatever adventures you want to throw at it. For more
