Vehicle Description
1957 Ford Thunderbird Roadster
The 1957 Thunderbird was marketed as a personal car, putting more
emphasis on the cars comfort and convenience packages than
performance. Although it out performed the Corvette right off the
line, the conveniences were heavily marketed. A new 12-volt
electrical system would be used to power all the conveniences and
proved to be the new standard for the future. Smaller fins, a new
grille, sleeker body and a hood scoop added to the appeal of what
some consider the nicest year for the iconic Thunderbird, said to
be named from the Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage,
California.
A frame-off, attention to every detail restoration, with some added
extras, make up this beautiful example. This car has a continental
style rear with outboard spare tire and elongated rear bumper
exhaust outlets. The underside of the car has been totally rebuilt
and appears showroom new. A look at the pictures, particularly the
side view will show the amazing transformation of the profile of
the car with the various top configurations, which are included
with the purchase of this car.
Exterior
Red, red, red, and a healthy serving of chrome adorn the exterior
of this classic automobile. No expense was spared in the
restoration as only top-notch redoing of original parts, were
painstakingly worked to perfection. Fit and finish is most likely
better than when it rolled off the assembly line. The convertible
top is new, and the round window hardtop shows spotless condition.
Beautiful chromed wire wheels with knockoff hubs are on all four
corners and are framed by wide white sidewall 205/75R14 tires.
Interior
Red, red, red wonderful leather bench seat with a Dial-O-Matic
power seat with memory, a radio that increases volume with the more
road noise you encounter, automatic windshield washer, power
windows, and a dual floor shifter (one for the 4-speed forward, and
the other dedicated to reverse) are the standard comfort options on
this beauty. A driver's side gauge cluster of round instrumentation
embedded in a circular machined pattern dashboard. The padded red
dash surround shows very slight imperfection on the top side of the
instrument cluster, but it's in otherwise excellent condition. An
air conditioning unit is nestled under the dash and can be
controlled easily by either driver or passenger. In keeping with
the beautiful design of this car, even the door panels and armrests
have wonderful lines in keeping with the entire look of the
car.
Drivetrain
A 312ci V8 engine with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor powers this
car. The chromed air cleaner could double as a serving tray, it is
that beautiful and clean. A 4-speed manual transmission takes the
215HP and puts it to the rear drive wheels. A separate small shift
lever is used exclusively for reverse. Dual exhaust leads the eye
back to the rear leaf spring suspension and guides you through an
immaculate underside view of the car. Double A arm front suspension
with all brand-new bushings, and drum brakes are also seen from the
underside.
This Red, red, red consignment, a stylish, luxurious,
upper-middle-class cruiser is a car perfect to give your
girlfriend, wife or mistress for in-town showing off. Exacting
restoration standards, this car, considered to be the most
beautiful design of all the 1950's Thunderbirds is a beautiful
example of Fords innovative design team's answer to the Corvette,
as well fending off the ever-increasing British sports car invasion
of the US shores. All but perfect condition, your chance to own a
car that brings truth to the statement, "It's often impossible to
match an original."
