Vehicle Description
Combining looks that are sure to draw attention with the road
manners you'd want in a frequent driver, this 1986 Chevrolet C10
Silverado is one versatile ride. It's a great blend of original
configuration and customization and this venerable pickup also
features well-configured, smooth running power under the hood.
Rather than showing modification at every turn, this Chevy goes a
different route and sports some very effective styling cues set
over a mostly original-looking exterior. A sizable front grille
looms over the front bumper, enveloping the signature dual twin
mid-'80s C10 headlight configuration and creating a dramatic,
almost minimalist look that really sets it apart from the crowd.
The black paint - ornamented by red striping that circles the
remainder of the body behind the front end - is a winning look that
sidesteps the vulnerability the shade often has for highlighting
any blemishes that might exist with its clean condition. This truck
sits low over its wheels, but not so low as to make it impractical
for everyday driving, and the aggressive incline of its stance is a
nice added touch. Its body alignment throughout is very much on
point - the hood sits level with the fenders up front, the doors
are flush in their closed position and feature fresh-looking
weather stripping to keep the elements out, and the cab, surrounded
by clean, tinted glass, meets up just as it should with the bed in
back.
The interior received the attention it needed to bring it up to par
and looks great. The bench seat is well-padded and its vinyl cover
sports a stock appearance that doesn't show much wear. Everything
is in good order with the dash area, which features an assortment
of clear gauges in its cluster and a straight pad on top, with a
carpeted cover to protect it from the effects of UV exposure. While
covers like this often mask issues sitting just underneath, there
are no such worries here. The air conditioning blows nice and cold,
and a few minor fixes will bring things to a whole new level inside
- the AM/FM stereo will need some work to get back online, the
power windows operate at a leisurely pace and the horn lost its
voice somewhere along the line. None of these repairs are
particularly involved. The bed area in back shows only the minor
surface scuffs that are generally considered badges of honor for a
working truck and it features a nicely fitting snap-on cover.
If dependable power is at the top of your priorities, this truck
steps to the front of the "must see" list. The 350 cubic inch V8
under its hood - which carries an Edelbrock 4-barrel carb on top
and a performance cam for some extra punch - is in great form. It
sounds great and runs smooth and the cam provides an appealing but
not disruptive lope while idling. The engine pairs with a 4-speed
automatic transmission, that shifts precisely and whose overdrive
gear comes in handy to provide lowered RPMs at highway speed. The
featured power steering is functioning just as intended to make
this rugged pickup an easy navigator, and its power brakes - with
discs up front - bring it to fade-resistant, dependable stops as it
performs its duties on a set of sharp-looking 15" stock Chevy
wheels with "SS"-badged centers that carry black wall radials.
