For Sale: 1952 Willys M38A1 in St. Louis, Missouri

Vehicle Description

Outstanding Willys Jeep M38 4x4 with Army &MASH painted appointments! Fully documented history since leaving the Arkansas Federal Military Surplus in 1972! It remained an Arkansas truck until 1999 before going on display for 19 year in the Evergreen Historical Automobile collection! A great example that comes with a 6-foot service trailer, black out lights, shovel & axe, and more! Neat piece for any collection! The Willys Overland Motors M38 Military Jeep was built from 1950-1952. It was modified over the CJ3A platform with a sturdier frame, upgraded waterproof 24-volt ignition and electronics, as well as ventilated air intake and axles provisions for duty in wet climates that may require crossing through high water! The durable Dana axles and transfer case allow for rugged 4-wheel drive in both a low and high range. The bodies were fitted with lifting shackles for air mobility, and a rear pintle hook for towing. An axe and shovel were tools affixed to the side in the event an obstacle lay in the way! These Jeeps were used primarily in the Korean War efforts. The beautifully restored 1951 Willys M38 4x4 Jeep was completed in the early 1990s with wonderful period specific detailing! Powered by its original Go Devil 134ci Inline 4 cylinder L-Head engine,Carter W-O downdraft carburetion, and 3-speed transmission, it provides ample power and reliability! Accessories include Auto-Lite 24-volt generator charging system, black-out lighting, standard road lights, radio antenna (no radio), spare gas can with hold down strap, convertible top frame & cloth cover, shovel & axe, folding windshield, rear-mounted spare wheel, all correct Goodyear Military 7.00x16LW 4-ply tires, front tow hitch with driver sight mirror, and a 6 service trailer with lights & lock brake. This absolutely rust free example was treated to a cosmetic restoration to be used confidently in military reenactments, parades, military reunion events, or even a Hollywood movie! For military collectors, you will be pleased to see the level of detail that went into making this a real treasure to have! From the correct canvass covered seats, brass dash placards, nicely detailed engine compartment & undercarriage, painted numbers and Army stars, to the M.A.S.H branding honoring the Military Army Surgical Hospital branch, it really portrays a great military image! This example came to public market in June 1972 when sold by the State of Arkansas Department of Finance & Administration office for the Arkansas State Agency for Federal Surplus Property. The original purchaser was David Land, the Superintendent for the St. Paul Arkansas School District. It was later sold in August 1975 to Wilburn Mullen who would keep it the next 9 years before selling to Lawrence Skelton from Springdale, Arkansas in November 1984. Lawrence kept and maintained this low mileage Willys for ten years, then sold it to the Plaster family to put in their Evergreen Historic Automobile collection in Lebanon, MO in October 1999 where it was prominently displayed for the past 19 years. It remains a real head turner in more ways than one!! Resent oil change, new fuel, and carburetor cleaning, along with fresh batteries make for quick starts and easy driving. Please buy with confidence! There will be few opportunities to acquire a piece like this!
