Vehicle Description
Date code correct 1970 Hemi drivetrain from the Carter carburetion
to the Dana rear axle! Factory 4-speed, power steering, power disc
brakes, rally gauges with tachometer, heavy duty Hemi suspension,
and more! Absolutely gorgeous restoration in complete nut-and-bolt,
rotisserie fashion! Everything new and wonderfully show worthy!
Clear a shelf in the garage for the trophies on this one! The
pinnacle of the Muscle Car era seemed to have peaked in 1970, when
American big block supremacy dominated the streets! Style lines
across all manufactures were arguably the best they have ever been,
with bold colors, graphics, and tons of options to please any
buyer! At Plymouth, the newly styled E-body platform was very
distinctive and the Barracuda was now available with the powerful
Hemi race engine from the factory! These fabled dual quad, high
horsepower engines were race proven in NASCAR, and were hardly
detuned for street use making them a rather menacing encounter
should you ever be called out at a red light! Because of the high
cost when new, only 652 Hemi Cuda Hardtops would be manufactured,
and surprisingly, just 14 Convertibles. All of which became
historically collectible in later years, with the convertibles
fetching multi-millions of dollars whenever they appear on the open
market. With the demand far exceeding the supply, many collectors
must settle for the next best thing, a well-executed example it
tribute (replica) form. The example listed here was thoroughly
restored in rotisserie, nut-and-bolt fashion with stunning results!
Using all correct components, including a 1970-date coded Hemi V8
and matching drivetrain, it will forever turn heads at car shows
for many years to come! A $2 Million appearance at a fraction of
the price! Offered here is a splendid 1970 Plymouth Barracuda Gran
Coupe Convertible fully restored to become a Hemi clone with all
the bells and whistles! Beginning with a California-sourced
specimen with only 38,264 miles on the odometer, Canadian resident
Tom E. Skjonsberg shipped this already rare 1 of 17 Barracuda Gran
Coupe Convertibles factory fitted with a 318ci-2V V8, 4-speed,
deluxe Gran Coupe gear, and rallye equipment, back home and decided
to take it up a notch! Once in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada in 2003, a
complete rotisserie restoration would commence, largely in part
because he already had a complete 1970 date-code correct 426ci Hemi
engine, transmission, and rear end begging for the right car to
transplant it into for a proper tribute! Starting with a super
solid car bearing factory paint code FE5- Rallye Red over
White/Black interior along with a factory console-shifted 4-speed
pistol grip manual transmission so no major alterations would be
required, high back bucket seats, full Rallye instrumentation with
dash tachometer, Rallye wheels, belt moldings, power folding white
top, and more, careful attention went into transforming it into a
remarkable Hemi tribute car inside and out! Completed in February
2008, this absolutely outstanding example has been detailed to show
winning caliber everywhere you look! Gorgeous exterior paint even
when looking underneath, new interior leather upholstery, carpet, &
convertible top, all new Heavy-Duty suspension, complete braking
system, fresh fuel delivery from the new stainless steel tank
forward, new tires, correct exhaust system with mufflers &
resonators with tips, all new wiring, weather stripping, and on and
on! It is virtually new in every respect with just 54 driven miles
on the odometer! Power is delivered from a January 26th, 1970 cast
Hemi engine bearing casting number 2468330-2 RL, dated-coded
correct 1970-1971 Carter 650cfm twin 4-barrel carburetion, 1970
date-coded 4-speed transmission, and 4.10 Hemi Super Trak-Pak Sure
Grip Dana 60 rear axle! Features include power disc brakes, power
steering, power top with glass back window, high back bucket seat
interior with center console, pistol-grip shifter, Shaker fresh air
hood with lock down pins, body side Hemi call-out strips, Rallye
instrumentation with 150mph speedometer/8k tachometer, front
driving lights, dual chrome racing mirrors, chrome rear luggage
rack, deluxe steering wheel with rim blow horn, carpeted floor
mats, 15 rallye wheels wrapped in period correct Goodyear Polyglas
GT F60-15 tires, front/rear seatbelts, fender-mounted turn signals,
glove box lamp, and Chrysler Solid State pushbutton AM radio! Since
completion, it was trailered to shows where it accumulation
multiple 1st Place Awards & trophies, including the Las Vegas 50th
Anniversary of the Hemi in 2014! The engine was professionally
rebuilt, tuned, and dyno-tested by Lee Brothers Performance
Specialties in 2003 and is said to have more like 300 break-in
miles before the odometer was hooked up upon completion. Included
with the car will also be the Galen Govier authenticity report
highlighting the original cars factory options, the factory
original fender & dash tags still intact, copy of the original
build sheet, and an very sharp hand painted show board on tinted
Plexiglas! Now it represents an opportunity for the right collector
to have what most couldnt have in 1970, or realistically even today
in any collection! Considering the astronomical cost of the
restoration alone, or justify the cost of the 1970 Hemi drivetrain
all by itself, this presents an incredible opportunity hands down!
Drive it, show it, and truly enjoy this one unlike any true
original! Please feel welcome to contact with questions or offers.
Thanks for looking as always!
