Vehicle Description
1989 Pontiac Formula 350 Firebird
According to 1989 ASC order logs, this Pontiac Formula 350
convertible is one of ONLY 43 made with these options! Rated at
250hp, testing revealed that the car was much closer to 300hp. With
the manual transmission, the car had a top speed of 181MPH, making
it the fastest production car for 1989. A prototype Corvette was a
bit faster, but was not to go into production until 1990, so the
Formula 350 was rated fastest.
This 51,257 original miles on the clock Formula 350 is as quick as
it is stylish. The car is in excellent condition, has been
repainted and is mechanically sound because it was well maintained,
and garage kept. A convertible that folds into the rear deck makes
this a car that can be enjoyed year-round, except this writer would
not condone taking it out into the snow!
Exterior
Recently repainted black (over its original black) paint shows
little imperfection throughout. Fit and finish is very good, and
all bumpers and fiberglass pieces are in excellent condition. The
convertible is in mint condition, and plastic in rear window is
unmarried excepting a fold line where it fits into the rear
cowling. Headlights are mechanical, and the hiding mechanism has
recently been repaired, so they are in good working condition. 20
slot aluminum wheels, iconic and identifiable to Pontiac, adorn all
4 corners.
Interior
Black cloth with vertical ribbed panel stitching cover two very
good condition bucket seats. Black carpeting throughout is in great
shape, with a pristine flip top opening center console, shifter,
AM/FM cassette radio and climate controls all within easy reach of
the driver or passenger. Pertinent gauges, warning lights and
switches adorn the dash, and are fronted by a per airbag era vinyl
steering wheel. Door panels with ribbed cloth, vinyl and carpet
sections show slight wear and include electric window and door lock
switches.
Drivetrain
350ci 5.7 Liter Tuned Port fuel injection provides the power to the
tune of a rated 250hp. Connected to this power plant is a 700 R4
automatic transmission, the R4 denoting a 4-speed. McPherson strut
suspension is on all 4 corners, as well as disc brakes all around.
A stock exhaust system provides adequate exhale for the engine and
shows little wear. Surface rust can be seen on underside parts,
however is overall in remarkable condition underneath and the rust
is only cosmetic.
