Vehicle Description
The 1972 GTO exemplifies the pinnacle of Pontiac styling for The
Great One. Unfortunately, by then horsepower was down, even on the
455 H.O. The owner of this particular tiger remedied that by
swapping out the original drivetrain in favor of a modern and
heavily modified LS3 mill, making between 550-600hp. Mated to a
4L80E transmission, this thing runs and drives out stronger than
any vintage Judge, heck with more power than the Supreme Court!
Custom high flow exhaust and modern performance wheels and tires
round out the "go fast" package.
A close inspection of the body and interior and it is apparent that
the attention went into the mechanicals in this build. This would
be a great car to drive in the summer and work on in the offseason
to really make it show worthy. Dash bezel and console
customizations aside, the interior is original, showing signs of
wear consistent with 40 years of use. Gauges and stereo system are
recently installed custom units.
The paint is shiny, but body panel fit off, bumpers, trunk lid,
fenders and hood could be refitted to line up better. There is
evidence of quarter panel repair or replacement on the right side.
There is also evidence of lifting under the vinyl roof.
If you want a car that "shows" as well as it "goes", then you have
yourself a solid driver that you can enjoy during the summer and
bring the interior and body up to snuff next winter. The price is
right as it sits and there is plenty of potential here to work
with.
