For Sale: 1970 Triumph Spitfire in Larkspur, Colorado

This is a 1970 Triumph Spitfire.  We purchased it off of Ebay in 2004 and as one can imagine (since it is an old British sports car), I have done a fair amount of work on her over the years.

New Top, new clutch and throw-out bearing, fiberglass and resin reinforced floor pans, new wire harness, new brakes, new carpeting new seat belts, rebuilt speedometer, a new gas tank a newly fabricated drive tunnel and a few other things I’m sure I’m not remembering.  The tires are nearly brand new.

• A couple things have quit working and they are:
• The heater, because I disconnected it.   It gets pretty warm without it.
• The Tachometer.  I’m not sure what’s going on there.
• The gas gauge.  Something simple I’m sure because most things on this car are gloriously simple.
• There may be a couple other things, but they aren’t coming to mind at this writing.
• The horn never worked even though it has one.

Some known issues:

The engine in this car is a 1275cc and not the original Triumph engine.  My British friend tells me that was very common as the 1275 is almost “bullet proof” and more common as it was in many MG’s.  I can’t say it is a better engine than the Triumph as I know nothing about the original motor.  It does burn a bit of oil.  I’m pretty sure just in one cylinder which is evidenced by some of the fouling on the spark plug.

There are a few little rust pimples and the paint job is what I would call fair given the age.

It is a kick to drive and corners unbelievably well given the age of the technology.  With a bit of love and maybe a turbo or a 6 cylinder (which was a thing I was often tempted to do) this car would be amazing.

If you like vintage cars, curvy roads, and a bit of mechanic-ing along with your wee dram or pint, this car would be a lot of fun
