This is an original Mustang Bullit, one of only 5,582 produced and one of just 732 produced in True Blue (the other colors being Dark Highland Green and Black), making it a rare collectible fit for the true Mustang aficionado. In the 17 years I have owned it I have never seen another on the road. I once had a state trooper in Missouri stop me on the highway just so he could sit in my car and rev the engine! I have babied and cared for this car as its sole owner, but surgery on my clutch foot has made it too painful to drive and I have to let her go. Very motivated to sell!
Ford made the Bullitt special by both performance and cosmetic tweaks. For its first movie tribute car, Ford gave the Bullitt a lowered suspension and bigger sway bars, specially tuned Tokico shocks and struts, 17” 5-spoke Torque Thrust wheels, and performance tires to complement its 4.6L V-8 engine with SOHC and dual rolled exhausts. The car was intentionally designed to let the driver feel and hear the road and it’s like driving in a race. Stopping power is provided by 13” rotors and dual calipers in front and 11” rotors and single calipers in back, with all calipers factory-painted bright red. The front calipers feature a white pony. Cosmetically the Bullitt and pony badging are prominent throughout plus a brushed aluminum shifter and race car pedals that are closer together for easier heel-toe shifting. The front grill is blacked out to give the “floating pony” effect, the gas cover is nailed stainless steel, and the windshield has a special black dot and pony graphic at the top. After-market additions include an electric moon roof and window tint.
When you sink into the specially-designed driver’s seat and feel how it hugs your body as you take curves at a high speed, the exhilaration is addicting. I have never had an accident (CarFax report available), cared for the interior leather routinely with cleaner and conditioner, and regularly maintained the engine. I recently had it detailed and the front bumper repainted to erase the tiny “road rash” specks. My Bullitt has been constantly garaged and driven mostly in summers as it is my second vehicle. There is some minor scuffing on the top of the rear bumper from putting things in and out of the trunk but no dents, dings, or rust. Charcoal gray leather interior is flawless. Non-smoking home. I’m including a cloth cover and a drive-on, zippered rodent-proof cover for storage.
Each Bullitt was numbered on the driver’s side strut and a hidden sticker under the rear seat; this Bullitt is #1876 and is registered with the International Mustang Bullitt Owner’s Club (imboc.com) along with almost 3,300 original Bullitts.
