Vehicle Description
The Shelby Cobra is a legendary performance car for some obvious
reasons. As Carrol Shelby put it, "It's a massive motor in a tiny
lightweight car". It is no wonder that they have been recreated so
often as both stunning road cars and awesome race cars. Backdraft
Racing is known for their attention to detail that makes every
roadster the most authentic, top quality, hand-built cars made.
Then, if you are so inclined to take it out on track, their racing
team will be right by your side with backup service and
support.
Meticulous attention to detail in the design and construction of
this car shows itself in both obvious ways, and in ways that evoke
a feeling that you can't quite explain. However little things like
the rivets in the hood scoop just like on the originals are part of
it. Fit and finish and the quality of the paint obviously live up
to the Backdraft reputation for first class workmanship. This car
is a beautiful shade of Titanium with Black stripes. Side pipes are
a way to get the car lower to the ground by not having to fit a
massive exhaust system underneath the car. And talk about evoking a
feeling? The sound of those pipes from both the inside the car, or
as a bystander, gets your heart pounding! Massive fender flares,
the hood scoop, racing stripes, roll bar and knock off wheels true
to the original Halibrands, all add up to reproduce one of the most
recognizable limited production cars of all time.
Reach inside and pull the lever to open the door. You will find an
interior that is simple as is appropriate for a race car but
finished and appointed nicely as is appropriate for a street car.
Have a seat in the simple but supportive bucket seat that wraps
around you and supports your legs with a comfortable bolster and
grab a hold of that wooden three spoke wheel with the Cobra center.
The gauges are laid out with the oil, water, fuel and volt gauges
across the top of the dash. The tachometer is the most important
things to keep track of during a race, so is right in the driver's
line of sight with the speedometer off to the right in the center.
The shifter is a bit different with its forward tilt but it works
great and using it becomes second nature in no time. There is a
tonneau cover that looks awesome and keeps the weather out when it
is snapped in place.
Under the hood is a neat and clean engine bay with a Ford
Motorsport 302 installed by Speed Fanatix nestled down inside it.
It is topped by a chrome K&N air filter feeding a Holley
Performance 4-barrel carb and an Edelbrock Air Gap intake manifold.
Ford Racing valve covers look great and there is a Backdraft Racing
plaque that says "Hand Built With Attitude". An MSD ignition system
along with Ford Motorsport wires and plugs assure a good spark
while electric fans on an aluminum radiator keep temperatures under
control. Long tube headers head out to those side pipes and power
is sent back through a 5-speed manual transmission. A coil over
suspension system offers great handling on the street and is
adjustable both front and rear so that you can optimize corner
weights and ride height for the track. 4-wheel disc brakes will
haul this car down from speed in a hurry and the rubber meets the
road through 315/35ZR17 tires in the rear, and 235/45ZR17s in the
front mounted on those awesome center spin wheels.
If you have ever had the desire to own one of these cars, check
this one out. It is true to the original and the build quality is
second to none.
