Description
1964 CADILLAC Deville
History
The Cadillac Deville is a personal luxury car that was manufactured
and marketed by Cadillac from 1952 to 2002 over ten generations.
Competitors and similar vehicles included the Lincoln Mark series,
Buick Riviera, Oldsmobile Toronado and Chrysler's Imperial
Coupe.
Why This Car Is Special
The Deville was near the top of the Cadillac line during early
model years. Our 1964 Cadillac Deville Convertible saw a lot of new
features in 1964. It got a different grille that slanted back
towards both the bumper and the hood lip, along the horizontal
plane, and sat between dual headlamps. New forward slanting front
pillars with non-wraparound windshield glass were seen.
Mechanical
It has a rebuilt Caddy 429 cubic inch motor with an Edelbrock carb
and automatic transmission. The Caddy was gone thru and many parts
were added to make it handle, perform, and add drivability
including a new gas tank, muffler, Disc brake conversion with
matching booster & valve, all new suspension with springs, shocks,
ball joints, idler arm, tie rods, a 4 core radiator which is better
than the 3 core, and a 6 blade fan clutch which is better than the
straight 4 blade that it came with, and a new water pump in it
too.
Standard equipment included power brakes, power steering, automatic
transmission, dual back up lights, windshield washer, dual speed
wipers, wheel discs, outside rearview mirror, oil filter, whitewall
tires,
The engine sits in a very restored bay that looks period correct
and just as it did when it left the factory with all the factory
air cleaners, valve covers, and accessories.
Interior
The beautiful white bucket seat interior with red carpet looks as
good as the engine and the exterior paint with its great door
panels, chrome on the dash, vanity mirror, and power windows.
The stereo system is custom built to look like the factory one by
Classic Car Audio. It has Bluetooth- Ipod and additional amp
capabilities, new front & rear speakers. It has a new top, replaced
carpet but the great seats are original leather and look
perfect.
Exterior
The Deville has great red paint, chrome, trim, glass and even the
correct fender skirts. It had been in Montana for decades with
insurance cards to prove it. It is very important where this car
comes from because it has only 45k miles. It was only driven in
summer. Floors are perfect which is always a problem with
convertibles as they all leak.
The Caddy runs on great period correct tires with the factory Caddy
wheel covers and drives and handles like a big Cadillac should.
Conclusion
The Cadillac Deville we have here at Skyway Classics is a great
restored Cadillac that can be driven with confidence and enjoyed by
all at the cruises and shows. It was the 17th consecutive year for
the Cadillac tail fins with a new fine-blade design carrying on the
tradition for the cars and will be recognized by any purist who
sees it.
